Does the FFL put your gun in his books?

A couple years ago my state passed a law requiring people to obtain a license to purchase handguns, I haven't gotten this license yet.

I owned handguns before this law was passed and put one on consignment in a local shop. It hasn't sold and I am ready to get it back, but I was thinking the FFL may not be able to transfer it back to me.

I've sold a few pistols on consignment at my LGS. Every time they entered the guns into their books when they took them in to sell.

Yes is your answer.

Had a part-time job at a gun store years ago. Someone put their own gun on consignment- he decided not to sell and wanted his gun back.
He had to fill out a 4473 and failed the background check.
This was in Ohio.

Not sure how it turned out in the end.

If they're following the law, they do.

You would have to talk to someone who is knowledgeable about MD guns laws, but it seems like you will have to get the handgun license to get your gun back.  The dealer should have explained what would happen when they took your gun on consignment.

He very well may have told me about it. He also probably assumed I had an HQL.
