Just out of curiosity... when buying firearms/accessories... do you prefer to buy new or used?

I've always been a buy it new type of guy... but the more and more I'm on the EE here there are some really great, lightly used items for much (for the most part) better prices...(and any transactions I've had have been positive)

Are you new or used type of buyer?

I buy used when I can.

Used in the firearms world is more often safe queens than shot out rattletraps.

If it's REALLY used, like heavily used, I am not as interested unless it's a bargain or it's something I MUST HAVE RIGHT NOW (rare).

More often used means "I shot a box through and put it in the safe with my other 15 handguns I bought on a whim", which is fine and might as well be new (although I won't pay new price for these).

When it comes to firearms and accessories people rarely use them and you can get great deals on them if you search for them especially in the equipment exchange.

I only buy new unless something is otherwise outrageously expensive new or just not made anymore, like SKSs.

Seen waaay too many people inherit problem guns to trust other people's gun ad listings.  I sell plenty of stuff and if everybody was straight up like likewise,I'd buy used way more often (cuz I disclose whatever issues and actual round counts my guns have).  But most MFers lie their asses off when selling and that's just so aggravating to deal with

For things like holsters, mag carriers, mags, etc used is fine.  We all have holster drawers.

Used firearms  if it's a good deal, and in VA it's a private transfer. I look at the spread vs new.

Gun parts are the same way,  someone bought an upper, wants to swap it pur, etc.

All depends on the price difference between new and used. I definitely ain't gonna buy used when someone throws their "rare and custom" g19 for sale at close to the price of new.

I buy used 90% of the time, even optics if theyre quality.
They have a warrenty if theres an issue.
I have probably had 500 guns pass thru my hands in 40 years 99% used.
In my possession I have ONE NIB gun currently and it's a rarity that I have that many.

Of the 40 years of collecting, I can honestly claim 2 lemons, a Hi power and a 1911 that were horribly worn internals to the point of locking up.....and one used Bushnell scope that had crosshairs break when being sighting in My fault or sellers?? who knows
it got repaired/replaced

Either, depending on the situation.  If you know what you're looking at, used is fine, just like buying a used vehicle.  Usually I have to buy new to get exactly what I want though.

Very rare that I buy a new gun.

Much better deals on used.

I don't mind buying used guns since most manufacturers will still honor the warranty (and nobody ever sends in the warranty registration cards) and fair number of people don't shoot more than 500rds a year.

Used.
If you find you don't like it resale it.

If I find a firearm I've saved up for and it's used, I'll take it over a new one. But I don't go out of my way to buy used guns. So most of my guns are (were) new at the time of purchase.

Probably 50% new 50% used, sometimes I don't want used firearms or pars, like if its for self defense, but for range toys used is the way to go. Also sometimes certain items will have many revisions or generations, if you buy used you will end up with the early models you may not want.

Mostly prefer new, but don't mind used.  Some real gems out there.

Abused is mostly easy to spot, and I haven't encountered any "someone else's problem" guns... yet.

I started strictly new, but now I need to find good deals to feed the addiction.

I bought a very lightly used Nikon Pro-Staff 3X9X40 in steel Leupold rings yesterday for $50.00 at the pawn shop. Hell the rings cost almost that.....I did not need it for anything but for the price into my Box-O-Scopes it went.

90% used for firearms, mostly new for accessories (but I do buy a lot of surplus USGI magazines). I own one firearm I bought completely new- a pump shotgun. My ARs are a mix of new, used, and USGI surplus components.

it depends. I purchased my 1911 used because it was barely used, and had front cocking serrations which are not offered anymore.

I purchase used if it is in like new condition, and its cheaper than new.

I buy brand new FCGs, barrels, and BCGs, but for the rest of the gun I will buy used parts off the EE all day long.

New.

I don't know what kind of trigger work Billy Bob and his "gunsmith" cousin did.

I don't want to find out either.

Mostly used.

I like the fact that I can sell guns for what I paid if not for more than I paid.

Most of the guns I like are older guns/not made anymore anyway, so used is pretty much the only option.

Both.  Bought several used items that are in great shape, or not being made any more, etc.

The NT4 comp (2nd from left) was used and I got a good deal on it.

Especially rare KAC handguards----no problem picking up a URX2/3 Rifle length at the right price.

I generally don't like buying anything used. You don't know how much or what kind of abuse the previous owner(s) may have subjected the item to. If the abuse was severe, but, limited to just once or a few times, then the item may not physically show the abuse. But, sometimes you don't have a choice. Like H&K P7M13 or M8 pistols because they don't make them anymore. Or Colt Pythons because they don't make them anymore. Another instance where I would consider buying a used item would be if there was an item that was out of my price range that I really wanted like a used, excellent condition FN M240 semi-auto for $5,000 used instead of $13,000 new.

I like to buy used AR-15's for a good price, then I always replace the trigger group, the BCG, the buffer and the barrel.

I'll buy used from friends or from a business that will stand behind a used item they sell.
