Lookie at what going on around the city.  The guy bought his pistol, waited 72 hrs to "cool-off", went to the range to pratice.
Then went home to wack the wife, and himself.
I guess when someone is that willing to kill, 3 days is not going to stop him.

An Elgin man who shot his wife and himself to death last week had bought a handgun, waited for the legal "cooling-off" period to expire, picked up the gun and used it in the slayings the next day, police said Monday.

Keith Herrmann, 28, and his wife Madeline, 25, had been having domestic problems, Elgin police Lt. Mike Turner said. But police had never been called to the house before the couple's bodies were found there Friday.

Yeah, that 3 day Illinois "cooling off period" really works well too when you already own at least one handgun and are just buying a second one.  Like you couldn't use the first one to "settle a dispute"!
