second busted fucking 1/4 carbide end mill..
and 2 1/16's gave there lives too. that fucking bolt was HARD!!!

Try going a slightly smaller mill and plunging it off in .05 increments. Then run the 1/4 back through as a clean up. With a channel that deep you're gonna get bite and deflection and with no where for the deflection to go, it's gonna break.

I'd say try stepping it down in increments, but getting a nice clean slot without deflection gouges in the side would be impossible.

And in my opinion, what it looks like, matters.

no the bolt is hardened, and the 1/16's were to get the firing pin nub off the face of the bolt and drill into it a bit. that was .025 passes and good and slow speed.

its a MK 4 thats going to be a pistol build. stock welded in folded position.

we took in a BUNCH of work tonight so it might be a day or two before an update. going to try and sneak in a bit of work on it tomorrow if i can.

got in a scar 17s tonight for check over and try to find mags for the guy. after a quick look over (got to tear it apart later for inspection) I'm not really that impressed. Kinda let down. honesty it felt rather cheap, like an airsoft toy.

update.

ok got it together stock is welded in the closed position, locking lugs cut off, cap altered. Pic below is ready for paint. after I paint the over lap parts; stock goes on get tacked at front locking. then tacked at the trunion after it gets pinned (don't worry as it sits now the stock will not deploy). then final paint. Once its on you will have to cut the gun up to get it off. Sorry Im being anal about the description. I am just making sure that no one gets any funny ideas. this is a pistol build. I also added the scope mounts like the mk6's.

just now waiting on Semi springs for the bolt and firing pin. the main reason for me taking on this project was to learn silver soldering, I was really shitty at it prior to this.. and after 2 days of trial and error, I think I might have it down.

pth.. springs on the way and painting tomorrow..

Oh and I have to order the reamer. damn barrel is out of spec and short chambered.

then I got a win 94 to stock, from a scratch blank. 3 muzzle breaks. starting the stock thursday. and waiting on parts for the breaks..

been pretty busy, hoping to get time for GW2. finding the gun work a bit more refreshing than raiding with morons.
