....he just gave a fantastic speech.  A resounding endorsment of President Bush and his policies, and a great kickoff to the convention, AND he ripped moore a new asshole

I admire everything about tonight's convention....but I'd also like to see a little more focus on some domestic issues, to compliment the rest of the agenda.

I’m no great fan of McCain’s.

But I have a feeling the choice next election will be between McCain and Hillary.

I’m not likely to be voting for Hillary!!!

Well, he's NOT pro-gun.

And as stated in another thread, he already wiped his ass with the Bill of Rights with McCain/Feingold.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

IMHO, Sen. McCain made a few points, but it was mostly a "lets get along" speech.  I do appreciate his support for the President, but regardless, I still can't see him as a trustworhty representative of the Republican Party.   Maybe he's looking towards the next presidential election, but I suspect it is too late for him.

The fact that the rumor even circulated that he might possibly consider running as Kerry's VP makes him liability as a politician. Was there ever any speculation that Kennedy or Daschle or even Leiberman might be Bush's running mate? But one of the top leaders in the Republican party was actually considered a possible choice for running mate.

That says alot in my opinion.

Oh, and there's the whole anti-gun stance that McCain has, that kinda bothers me too! Like when he voted to kill the Lawful Commerece in Arms act by supporting the amendment to "close the gunshow loophole". That kinda pissed me off.

IF--and it's a big "if"--his flirtation with SKerry was just a political ploy, then it was a highly valuable stroke of genius.  The media and Dems were just orgasmic over the coup it would have been to have a long-time, powerful, Repub Senator as the SKerry VP candidate.  It appears, though I hate to give him props, he strung them along, then when they announced it in a semi-formal fashion, he said, "No, I have no interest in running as the Democratic Vice President candidate."  However it happened, it was very valuable for our side, and really made Edwards appear to be second-fiddle--almost as good as having, oh, say, Senator Zell Miller as the keynote speaker of the Republican convention.  hehe

Both Zell Miller and Ed Koch are true Americans. Ed Koch came out and basically said that he thinks everything President Bush has done domestically has been wrong, but he thinks that President Bush will do a better job defending this nation than Kerry could. That took courage!

Frankly I don't see the same POLITICAL courage in John McCain (not to disparage his war record, the man is a certified hero). But at least he is in line and vocal now. That's something I guess. I have a hard time saying nice things about McCain, because of the way he voted on the Lawful Commerece in Arms Act.

My thoughts exactly. He's like the Republican version of Kerry if there is such a thing. I wouldn't vote for him on a dare... IMHO he's a typical slimy politician.
