I'm guessing a lot of people here harbor a dislike towards soy milk, thinking it's a hippy-starbucks-vegetarian-snob thing, which isn't exactly true.

I actually like it. A lot. See, most people past their early- to mid-teens are lactose intolerant to some degree, including me. So, regular milk gives me a really painful stomachache when taken in a quantity of more than about a cup a day, though cheese and yogurt don't really do anything. So I can put soymilk on cereal or in coffee or whatever, and it's fine. It tastes odd at first, but once you get used to it it's pretty good.

Add that to the fact that there are indications it lowers your bad cholesterol (repeated experiments show a correlation between consumption of soy protein and reduction of LDL), and I'm sold.

But I will be the first to admit that soy cheese and soy yogurt are for crazies and vegetarians*.
*the terms do not necessarily overlap; for example, most Buddhists are vegetarian, but not crazy.

Barfola.

My boss' libtard wife wanted his daughter (her step-) to drink soymilk on her cereal.

The daughter told her dad, "I'm not drinking that crap!"

I about choked when I overheard her say that.

Voted I love it.  About 5 years ago I found lactose intolerance I didn't know I had was contributing to an irregular heartbeat.  After a few months of "acquiring" a taste for it, I now prefer it to regular milk.  I like the sun soy brand, that 7th heaven stuff sucks, as do a few other brands I tried.  Don't like the flavored varieties like the vanilla and such, those are for the libtards.

It's not whole soy, but it's certainly made of soy. It's a suspension of several proteins and other materials from the soy pulp in water.

See the Wikipedia article for information on the manufacturing process.

Traditional soy milk, a stable emulsion of oil, water and protein, is simply an aqueous extract of whole soybeans. The liquid is produced by soaking dry soybeans, and grinding them with water. Soy milk contains about the same proportion of protein as cow's milk~ around 3.5%; also 2% fat, 2.9% carbohydrate and 0.5% ash. Soy milk can be made at home with traditional kitchen tools or with a soy milk machine (Soyajoy, Soylife, Miracle,...)

I can't do milk at all, lactaid, lactose free, skim, whatever, I get sick and develop the most foul expulsions.

But I love Cereal, so I made the switch to Soy Milk.  Silk brand is the best, stay away from 8 Continent, that stuff sucks.

The Silk chocolate milk is freaking awesome.  When my wife was breatfeeding our son, he would have bad reactions and get all gassy and fussy when she drank milk, she switched to soy then and our son was fine after that.  Weird.

My son still cannot drink regular milk, he is okay with lactose free milk, but prefers soy milk.

I've tried it.  Doesn't taste worth a damn.  Soy products are actually known for triggering behavioral changes in men -particularly increased aggressiveness.  Has the opposite effect on women - different hormonal makeup.

Absolutely correct, and the phytoestrogens are responsible for behavioral changes in men who consume soy products.  Makes men more irritable and aggressive, while it has a calming and soothing opposite effect on women due to the different hormonal makeups.

I don't drink it, and I will continue to not drink it barring my developing lactose intolerance.  I can see it as a viable alternative to milk for people who can't drink normal milk, but other than that, I think its mostly in the province of vegetarians and people who lean even farther that direction.

Anyway, I voted drink whatever floats your boat, as long as you don't try to force me to drink it.

I like it a whole lot actually. Personally I prefer the taste of vanilla soy-milk over regular cow milk. It makes for an interesting coffee too. And I'm not lactose intolerant

Besides from that, it's guranteed to be free of hormones, anti-biotics etc. if you're worried about that sort of thing.

However, did you know that the calcium in soy milk is absolutely worthless to your body? So don't rely on it for your only source calcium.

I've had it, and like all things, some brands are better than others.  It's not milk, but some of the stuff tastes a lot like milk, and will keep for months without having to be refridgerated, with is a big plus.

Soy milk? Does such a thing exist? Ok, I've seen many soy beans, I've never seen any nipples on a soy been, hell, I've never seen any breasts on a soy been, and believe me, I'm a breast man!

Lets recap.

Soy beans:

No breasts

No nipples

NO MILK!

I only drink milk on breakfast cereal, and then not often enough to keep a quart from spoiling long before I get to the bottom of it. Soy Milk keeps a lot longer that dairy milk before it spoils - something on the order of several months, IIRC. So, soy's the way to go for me.

The Wal-Mart ("Great Value") brand tastes as good as Silk, and isn't as expensive.

Interesting factoid that I just was just made aware of.  (you lactose intollerant types probably know this already).  Most adults in the world are lactose intollerant.  Almost all non-white adults are lactose intollerant.  For those of you who have travelled to parts of the world with non-caucasion populations, you may have noticed that the people don't consume much milk (especially adults).

Edited for gratuitous adjectives

I don't really care for it, but if you don't want or can't drink real milk, have at it.  I myself love real milk, and drink it just about every day with dinner and sometimes during the day with a snack.  About 4 years ago I was drinking 80oz of milk every day.  Yep.

I'm slightly allergic to most soy derived foods (vegetable oil, crisco, tofu,MSG, etc),so I don't touch the stuff. Given the estrogens issues that some claim,I probably would avoid it anyway.
