I tend to use Bleu Cheese the most these days. For a long time it was Ranch. Before that it was Thousand Island. I remember when I used to think Bleu Cheese dressing was gross and it wasn't as popular. Now I adore it.

Went with bleu cheese. It is my go to dressing unless there is a lot of cheese already on the salad, in which case ranch is on standby.

Buttermilk ranch with bacon in it.

Quoted: olive oil + balsamic. creamy dressings make me barf this. |

That Japanese style carrot and ginger dressing. That stuff is like crack!

Quoted: Quoted: Poll Fail Caeser Salad This If the place has a good Caesar, that's what I order. I also love the ginger-based dressings at most "Japanese Steakhouses." Absent that, I'll usually have 1000 Island because it seems to be the "safest" choice at various and sundry restaurants. My very favorite in recent memory, though, is the Pineapple Ranch dressing at The Cracker Barrel... but, alas, it and the salad it comes on is only available seasonably each year. |

Ranch, and can someone explain to me why the salad dressing I get at restaurants always tastes better than the stuff I get at the store?

Quoted: Honey mustard for me, please. Yeah WTF. Poll fail! Honey Mustard. |
|
Thousand Island, usually.
Sometimes Ranch. Dorothy Lynch is a good alternative once in a while. |

Creamy Garlic followed by Ranch. None of that vinegar/oil/balsamic weirdness here.

If I'm trying to cut calories, I'll cut up a banana on my salad. I've also used Odwalla Green Machine juice as a salad dressing before.

Bleu Cheese. You can use it with salad, french fries, pizza and hamburgers. Pure epicness.

French, I SAID FRENCH! Went to a " Fancy " for me local resturant ( $75 for the wife and me with no alcohol) and the 12 year old waiter came back with ranch. I sucked it up as the kid just didn't hear, but not the Princess. She politely explained she had asked for FRENCH dressing. Kid said he had never heard of it. So we blow it off and eat dinner, later junior reports back that he had asked the chef about " French" dressing, and that if we meant " CATALINA" the resturant didn't serve it. Apparently my tastes are too pedestrian for them........

Brianna's (made in Texas)
Mandarin Ginger Ranch Poppyseed Honey Mustard I could go on.... |

I prefer homemade dressings. My favorite is a garlic and red wine vinegarette.
Garlic clove Dijon mustard Salt Pepper red wine vinegar olive oil sugar Homemade Caesar is great as well. Also, if you want the finest steak tip marinade in the history of meat, try this: 1 cup A1 sauce 1/2 cup Balsamic vinegar 1/2 cup olive oil 3 tbs sugar salt and pepper to taste Wisk until it comes together. Give em a good 2 day soak. and grill. Tangy and sweet. Delicious. |

I didn't mention it before because it's very regional (for all I know, it may not be available outside central AL), but at home I use John's Slaw Dressing a lot as a salad dressing. The B'ham restaurant it originated at is long gone AFAIK, but the dressing is still carried by some grocery stores here. Good stuff... I'm posting this from a deer blind, and y'all are making me hungry!

Bleu cheese or Catalina, depending on my mood. Occasionally a balsamic vinaigrette or honey mustard. I hate ranch with the fire of a thousand burning suns.
Quoted: can someone explain to me why the salad dressing I get at restaurants always tastes better than the stuff I get at the store? Any good restaurant makes its salad dressings from scratch. Every condiment or dressing I have ever made from scratch has always been significantly better than even the best bottled stuff. Ever make your own mayonnaise? Good stuff. |
