I have an Action Target 12" that I love. What's your favorite target dealer?

I am thinking something like this

http://www.shootsteel.com/3-8-ar500-12x20-static-target-package/

I want one of these too

I've only bought one steel target. I bought from MGM Targets with great results. I got a half sized IPSC target that I couldn't be happier with.

Cheers!

That website gives me a migraine trying to figure everything out. I am not a fan of A-frame targets.

It looks like they have standing targets with their battle born set up.

I used to have a local AR500 steel supplier use their plasmaCAM or torchCAM to cut out shapes or plates from templates I would give them.

Then I would weld up the base myself out of regular A36 steel.

EDIT:  I don't make targets for other people any more.  If I recall correctly, the AR500 plate pictured above cost $43 each.  All my stuff was designed to fit in a USPS flat rate box meant for board games.  Using regular shipping would have my targets prohibitively expensive.

Challenge Targets.

Used to have Action Targets, and LE Targets, but Challenge's are much more modular, easy to swap out, easy to break down and set up, and the owner of the company (Brad Brune) calls me back when I call in. Sometimes he answers the switchboard if all the phone people are swamped.

You and me both on the layout. Working in a revamp for this spring.

A-frames are nice for gongs and small reactive, but the battle born stands are what I used on all of my home range.

Bought most of mine from a 65Grendel.com group buy years ago.  More recently I purchased flippers for dueling trees from MrTarget.  MrTarget has treated me right--ordered the wrong plate package and they upgraded my order at no charge.

I am in southern Illinois, so...so far I have not found a range that will let me shoot rifle against steel targets at any distance.

In turn, I like the targets to be at the top of a stand instead of hanging from an A frame.

If I were to build an A-frame type target, I think I would make something like an MGM flasher:

The orange and white rectangles are made of that plastic sign material (Corplast) and they see-saw back and forth when the AR500 target gets hit.

EDIT:  I used to shoot pistol alot (a USPSA, IDPA, or Steel plate match every weekend).  So another reason I like my steel targets to be on top of a stand.  The IDPA classifier stage has 3 targets, abreast where one is 6 foot tall, the middle target is 4 footvtall, and the right target is 5 foot tall.  That is why mine are in a height adjustable "gooseneck" pictured above.

If you are really bored:

I work with heavy equipment so get all kinds of steel. Everything from 3/8 mild steel that acts like paper to AR plate and 1" hardened machine steel.

Anyone in the Harrisburg area want some, I can probably get some.

Get the MOA 95% C zones, they fit in a USPS Priority box,  I make my own bases that break down real small and are easy to lift.

The only steel targets my range approves are the ones they sell.  I had a LaRue F.A.S.T. But after about three years of shooting it, it was suddenly "unsafe".  About the same time they started selling their own.

Hang Fast

Found out about them here on afrcom a couple of years ago.

Excellent quality with a unique, simple and cheap mounting system using a standard T metal fence post and durable as hell.

Love 'em.

JCsteeltargets.  Our practical rifle discipline has bought thousands of dollars of targets and stands from them because I have yet to find a place that beats their price, service, and very low shipping charges.  My local post office hates it when I get deliveries from them because they use priority mail shipping, and stiuff around 75 pounds of steel into a package, and only charge me postage.  Getting 75 pounds of steel shipped for around $20 is a killer deal.

Ooooh I like that. My only hang up is that in winter it would be impossible to pound that into the ground.

Value, customer service. Most of the other target brands I find are more expensive. Plus, he's local and very cool ;). That doesn't meant other brands don't make good targets, but his work great and don't break the bank.

Ya...You're missing something.  I have a lot of his steel.  What are you looking for that he doesn't have?  I also have steel from several other manufacturers, I won't buy anything but MOA steel now.  The customer service from those guys is far better.  I have a 13 yr old son that  just spent 10 days at the MGM camps last summer.  Great camp, good people.  I still buy MOA steel.  It's superior in some aspects, it's more affordable in all aspects and the people are better to deal with.

I probably have 20 steel targets.  If you have any questions, I'll help you out.

Yeah, you are missing something. I know if I have a problem with my MOA target, I can IM, Facebook, or just call the CEO directly and have my concerns addressed. If I need a specialty target made or shape created, I can have it done with minimal fuss and cost premium.  I go with MOA because I know he gives a shit about individual purchasers. I can't personally say that about any other target company

I am not a fan of A frame hanging targets for some reason. I am looking at the upright set up he has and with everything all said and done for an upright target it would be $218 with shipping. Shootsteel.com has them for $185 with shipping(15% discount applied).

I think the question I need to ask is "What do you want to accomplish with these targets?"

Is this a plinker that you're gonna shoot every once in a while or are you going to set up stages and simulate competitions?

Send me a PM with exactly what you are looking at getting and I'll see what I can do. I won't say my prices can't be beat, because I'm not trying to be the cheapest guy out there. What I am trying to do is give you the most bang for your buck.
