I do not think they should be banned.
I do wish people would quit breeding them and quit buying them. Then in about 10-20 years they would cease to exist. That would not bother me one bit. |

I've met some very nice pit bulls, as well as nice Rottweillers, German Shephards, etc. However, pit bulls tend to attract a certain type of owner, usually ghetto thugs, white trash, or people with an inferiority complex. They raise and breed aggressive dogs. Pit Bulls seem to be being bred for more aggression, and "bling".

I love my pit bull and plan on buying another when he passes. The breed of dog isn't the problem, it's the people who raise them badly. Anyone who wants to ban all pit bulls yet thinks we should all be able to own firearms, should look in the mirror.
Guns/dogs are not the problem, it's the bad owners/breeders.

It might be difficult to ban them unless they have breeding that is documented. It could end up that you would just have to ban dogs that have certain "evil features" and we saw how that worked out.

Pit bulls are some of the best dogs around, if they're had by responsible owners. All the pit bulls that make the news for mauling kids and stuff are aggressive because they were raised improperly. Just my .02

pits make for great pets. just like any dog, beat it and its will be mean. the difference is that a pit bull has the brawn to take a chunk out of your hide if you raise it to be a mean dog.

I'd like to see a 10 year ban, with a sunset provision. Ban pit bulls with spiked collars and sharp teeth.

Yup. If you're into banning evil machine guns, you're a liberal. If you want to ban smoking, offensive TV, violent movies, porn, alcohol, or even baby killing pitbulls, you're a conservative. Freedom means controlling what other people do, as long as what you do is OK. Honeslty, you'd think there'd be more conservatives on a gun board. I can raise a Boxer to kill intruders too. Or a Shar-Pei. Or a Doberman. Husky. Wolfhound. Etc, etc, etc..... Banning things like a breed of dog is asinine and it's taking the "easy way out" while never solving the underlying problem. At some point there will be a list of everything banned that exceeds the things that aren't banned. Wonder if we will feel safer and more free then?

I couldn't agree with you more on the above comment. It's amazing how many people here talk about freedom, but are willing to ban things THEY don't like   . My pit bull is no more dangerous than any of the firearms the people here own. Your guns can kill people. My pit bull can kill people. All the people who voted yes, PLEASE explain to me why my dog should be banned and you firearms shouldn't?

I hate Pits.
I say don't ban them but do require their perspective owners to be carefully screened before ownership and require insurance coverage that specifically covers their lovable and loyal destructive device should they suddenly tweak out and attack someone. Pits I think have a place in life like all pets but suburbia is not IMO one of them. |

Let me ask you this then, Do you believe that all gun owners should have to carry extra liability insurance incase they "tweak out and" shoot someone? As to the screening process, thats not all that bad of an idea, but lets make sure every pet owner has to do it. there are alot of bad pet owners, not just pit owners. I know locally anyway, that if you adopt from the humane society or the county animal control, you have to get interviewed, and would gladly do it. Again, some people here think that as long as the things they own/like are "OK", everything else can be banned. I will never understand how some people here can complain about liberals wanting to take their rights and freedoms, yet feel they are just in doing it to other people using the same mentality as the liberals.

Pit Bulls are wimpy dogs just like all other dogs. It's asshole pit bull owners that train them to be mean. That are the ones to be banned/excuted. Dogs of all kind are cool! |
