I have a Benelli Nova Tactical pump right now, and it shoots everything from Aguila minishells up to 3.5" tubes of ouch.

My only caveats about this weapon are that it is a pump, and therefore slower to cycle, get back on target, and shoot, and that this model has an integral buttstock, so I can't add a pistol grip or a different stock if I desired.

Also, finding aftermarket parts for this gun is nearly impossible. No one makes replacement forearms, rails, etc. It took me MONTHS to find a mag tube extension.

So I'm thinking of adding a semi shotty to my collection. Any suggestions?

Same company makes the Benelli M4.

Yeah, benelli makes a pretty good shotgun. Simple, reliable, easy to use. What more could ya ask for?

well, a pump is NOT slower cycling than an auto.  The Auto's are physically limited by the gas system, while the pump is not.  YOU may be slower cycling the pump than an auto, but go youtube some of the shotgun 'trick shooters' and sit back and watch some fast frigging pump action.

As far as your question, well it depends on what you're doing with the shotgun to get a good answer.  A Remington 1100 or 1187 can be a great all around choice, can be used for hunting, clays, 3-gun, home defense, etc.  Tons of after market parts for all those sports too.

+1 for the 1100. Great all around guns

I bought a Benelli Super Black Eagle a couple years ago and couldn't be happier with it.
I use it for everything from shooting clay pigeons to 3 gun to pheasants, ducks, geese and turkeys. It will handle everything from 2-3/4" to 3-1/2" shells.
Magazine extension tubes are available as well as reduced power recoil springs for low power 2-3/4" shells.
Mine does everything I want it to do. It has become my one gun for everything.

I have an M1 Super 90 Field Synthetic.  It's a great gun.

11-87 SP 3" mine eats everything it's feed.
YMMV

My FN SLP is wickedly fast, but I'd have to put several hundred rounds of a given load through it before I trusted it as much as my 590.

I shoot just as quickly with my Rem870 as I do with my Rem1100.  With that said, I like shooting the 1100 on sporting clays so that's why I have it.

As for the 1100, the first 5 or 6 boxes of shells that went through it were a mess.  All kinds of obnoxious failures.  However it cleared up after that and I finally quit calling it "Sid, The Retarded Shotgun" and I haven't had much of anything for hangups ever since.

+1

When my dad and I would go duck hunting, I could get off 3 shots with my pump faster than he could with his auto.

They don't make it anymore.  But I have been nothing but pleased with my Beretta 1201FP.  I believe it is the same system used by the Benelli autos.  Fast and smooth.

ETA pic.

It is recoil operated.  NOT gas.
And is chrome lined.

+1, my duty shotgun.  SOG had a bunch of police trade-ins a few months ago for $400.

Not a semi but I sure am happy with my mossberg 590.

...Thing I like about my 590 is that it is rugged and reliable.  Its also affordable so I don't mind getting my grubby hands and dirt all over it.  Honestly I have a bad habit of cringing everytime someone breaths on any of my guns that are over $600.  That's why when I travel the 590 gets thrown in the truck or car, and why I don't mind taking it camping.

Its my personal/family defense workhorse as far as long-guns go.  Someday I will have enough guns that a beater AR and a beater semi-auto shotgun could be in the cards.  But its hard for me not to baby something that expensive.  I will still always feel good knowing that my 590 will always cycle.

...Not to say I don't clean and oil the shit out of it regularly.  I'm just saying.  I'd rather buy some 5.56 with the price difference of a semi.  Your mileage and budget may vary.
