Yes, I know that BEST is a relative term but we have to begin somewhere.

So what is the best .308 semi auto?

Why?

Got Pics?

I like the HK93 and the PSG-1, which I cannot afford.....its alsome, but really too heavy, so the 14lb MSG90 would be a nice substitute. Oh, the HK family album!

gene,

An E2 stock?  Try McMillan.  Of course is it fiberglass.  In fact, I was there yesterday for a stock for my M1A due to the "problem" achieving proper cheekweld with a scope.  They had a pistol grip model with adjustable cheek peice on internet special.  Great price.  Well, cool, I thought.  Until they mentioned one little problem.

That %^&*&^%*()((^*&% Crime Bill.  Can only have a pistol grip on a PREBAN M1a/M14.

What a crock of - well you get the picture.

The M14 is my favorite. It just feels right.

This is my springfield Armory M1A. The stock is a USGI walnut from FRED'S note his fake selector lock stock filler.
...[:D]  Yep, it's full of USGI parts  [:D]

Yo Jimmybcool, if you get rid of the flash hider and install a Springfield Inc brake or Smith brake you could use the E2 stock...

Nice pics, Derek45.  I agree, the M14 or Springfield Armory M1A outfitted with USGI parts.

The M1 Garand, with a .308 barrel,  makes a nice rifle.

feels right? heck, 90 plus countrys can't be wrong. the fal rules!!! the only countrys that used the m14 were the ones that we (the usa) gave them to! all the rest that had to buy a 'nato standard arsenal' went with either the fnfal, or the hk. (the hk being quite a bit cheaper). having owned the hk and the fn, the fn is the best. having shot the m1a various times, i like it a lot, but, it kicks more, by quite a bit, it is certainly not anymore reliable than the fn or hk, and accuracy wise it is actually slower to get on target after firing a round.  parts are a bunch more expensive, including magazines. the fal has a lot less recoil, accuracy is decent,(not up to the m1a) but VERY close. far more parts availability.(not that you would need them) and cheaper by a bunch!

bwilly,
I've played with the FAL quite a bit, sold it. I just like the M14 better. [puke]

raf,
I like the M1 locking bar rear sight. adjust it, lock it down.
I know an old M1 shooter. He showed me how a trained rifleman can lay down alot of firepower with the Garand. as soon as the enbloc clip ejected has was stuffing in another. He hated giving up his beloved Garand for the "new improved" M14.

Crappy pic of my Tankerized Garand in 7.62NATO.  It's my "brush gun".  My favorite of many guns.

Paul,

What kind of "work" do you do???  Very ice belt fed.  Second, how do you get a decent cheekweld with the scoped M1A?? This is driving me crazy.  Crazy enough to give up on the scope and just stay with iron sights.

Hey Noname, are you 100% positive about that?  Hmmm, I could do that.  Smith Enterprise is just down the road a bit and MCMillan is closer.  God I love living in AZ.

Personally my favorite .308 is my "Tanker" Garand.  Same overall size as a Mini-14, in .308.

Dispite the horror stories about "Tankers", mine works flawlessly.

Yo Jimmybcool, your M1A has one evil feature- the flash hider-delete that and replace it with another evil feature- pistol grip stock.
PS---IMHO the Springfield muzzle brake looks a lot better than the Smith brake. You can see both in Brownells catalog...
