Do away with Affirmative Action.  There is a lot of bitterness that stems from persons of minority getting preferential treatment or employment based on the color of their skin for the sole purpose of diversity.  I think the policy had good intentions (but you know, The road to Hell is paved ...), but it's seeming to cause more interracial tensions than it did away with.  I don't care what your ethnic background is.  If you're lazy, or otherwise unqualified and under skilled, you don't deserve the job/promotion.  Period.

Folks left to their own devices seek those they have something in common with.
The old ethnic neighborhoods during the Euro immigration phase spring to mind, Little Italy, Germantown, Chinatown, you could find these neighborhoods in every major American city.
Even today, in integrated schools, usually all the black kids eat lunch together, all the Hispanics tend to sit together, and the white kids tend to hang out together.
If folks want to integrate themselves, there should of course be no law preventing it, but if folks want to stay with their own, THIS ALSO should not be illegal.
All Black scholarship societies, pageants and cable channels are allowed...Blacks are allowed to seperate. Hispanics are allowed to have their own clubs and political action groups, only whites are forbidden these things.
This is clearly not fair, and until the govt. stops interferring with folks' pursuit of happiness and natural proclivities to associate with one's own, racial tensions will increase and become more destructive.
The more they try to *force* the races together, the more people will *resist*.

A certain amount of progress comes with more minorities getting college degress or advanced training of another kind that helps them get places IF they make adjustments to differentiate themselves from their homeys.

Moving out of the poorer neighborhoods does not mean you are selling out.   You don't have to be too good for your family, of course.

Also, the better we enforce immigration policy, the better the races will get along.  Why? In my opinion, the illegal immigrants are for the most part from the less desirable elements of their native society.

I don't think there are many PhD's or professionals SNEAKING in.

Also, we need to restrict H-1B visas to the point of virtual extinction and put citizens on those jobs.  THe whole program is nothing but a corproate profit initiative.  

There are very few true shortages of American workers who do not have the skills needed for the positions that go to H-1B workers.

The only problem is that the companies don't want to pay the going rate for American talent.

Hannah touches on it.  Govenment sanctioned preferences or consessions made to one race will cause resentment from the others and does more to ferment hostillities than to aliviate them.

I would illiminate all programs and/or permission to show any type of preference and instead focu on racial discrimination cases and treat any found guilty very harshly.

First step, every person on some kind of goverment crutch for something that happened 200 years ago needs to wake the fuck up and realize the world was founded in civilization taking over other civilizations.  Until Everyone in this country has equal opportunity (I'm a white middle class kid who made the deans list in highschool and scored a 1200 on my sat, yet I didn't get ONE scholarship for college) to excel then there will continue to be some sort of conflict.

I'm not prejudice, racist, etc at all, but the indian reservation up the road does kind of anger me.  Monthly they receive food and money from the goverment, and both parties believe it's helping, wrong.  I had numberous native american friends in my highschool drop out, to go to a native american highschool, where they did 1/3 of the work and 1/3 of the learning, yet still graduated with the same degree.  It's through the crutch that my native american friends have learned that the best they can do in life is to eat uncle sam cheese, collect monthly checks, and supplement income by working in a Casino.

If the goverment truely want to help those who were opressed by some white guy who none of us are probably related to, then they would give them incentives to accelerate in society, not the idea of being content on goverment funding and selling illegal fireworks.

A lot of racial predispositions ceom from the lack of education, on all partys.  I grew up on a military base, so living with people of all different races was how it went, maybe I could attribute that to my openness to others, but I'd like to think that environment shouldn't have some sort of impact on how we view others, but unfortunately it does.  Fathers instill values of hate into their kids who teach their friends who teach their friends.

In the end, I don't think I owe anyone ANYTHING because of my heritage or skin color.  But if I do, then anyone of Roman ancestory owes me something for crushing my people in the dark ages.

It depends on how you choose to define racial harmony. If this means look to history to gauge the relativeness, I would say that we have achieved the most balanced harmony known to mankind. If you are the over-analitical type who wishes to choose definitions to advance your agenda, then not until everyone fucks everyone mandated by the government. In other words, take the melting pot theory down to the level of pensis and vagina, develop computerized models for blending race, and issue mandatory sex warrants specifying which partner is yours for the week.

This is a government that not only do I not wish to live under, but has been explored in the movies quite thoroughly.

Three things are needed to end racism in America:  Assimilation, assimilation, and more assimilation.

But I'm pleased to see things are changing. Blacks seem to be discrediting themselves when they "cry racist" these days. People are sick of it.

I don't dislike people because their skin is a different shade than mine. I find myself getting irratated everytime I turn on the news and you have three stories: 1. blacks robbing, killing, stealing, and rapeing. 2. blacks bitching about unfair and racist treatment(usually when they don't get something given to them) 3.hispanic immigrants wanting America to become what ever counrty they just came from instead of conforming.

How much racism is actually due to specific acts or deeds? How much is simply fabricated so someone (calypso louis for example) just so they can make a few bucks?
Actually facts will never matter since so much racism is based on fantasy.

The days of personal responsibility, if they ever existed, have long past.  Many people have been dealt shit hands in life and have played their cards to become and maintain being, good folks. Racial equality? It's taking care of it's self. Note the racial mixing today compared to say 30-40 years ago. Give it another 40 years and everybody will be the same color, maybe a little sooner up north than down south, in my opinion.

Forced integration causes segregation.  Racial instigators (on both sides) create contempt.  End quotas and put a muzzle on all that either discriminate or constantly scream discrimination.  I spent the first 12 years of my life in Germany as a "half breed" army brat.  From the Americans it was F'ing Nazi, and from the Germans it was Verdamter Ami.  (Damn American)  I had friends of all races and nationalities.  I learned, the hard way, to take people as individuals.  I learned that the Klan and the Black Panthers were the same thing on different sides.  I learned the true definition of equality.  What I see now is discrimination for the purpose of countering discrimination.  Just get over the past.  It is done and nothing can change that.  Grow up and realize that the only difference is the amount of melanin in our skin.  Not our abilities, not our intelligence, but our attitudes are what make us who we truly are.

I'm in the same boat,  my dad was military and met my mom in germany.  Lived there for 6 years, although I never got anything against me for being an american, yet ive been called a nazi more than a couple times....

Now, on with the elightenment:

1. We have to accept the fact that in a free society people have the right to choose to be stupid, ignorant, and, yes, bigoted.  Trying to legislate these things out of existence in unrealistic and product of a thought police mentality.

2. Understanding that we will always have the people of point #1 with us, we have to live with the fact that we will always have the stupid, ingnorant, etc. with us.  I tend to ignore them as best I can and live my life separate from them, no matter what their appearance.

3. Remove institutionalized racial preferences.  UM, SCOTUS, et al, think they are doing us a favor with forced integration, admissions/hiring quotas, etc., but the opposite is true.  Giving a lesser qualified person preferential status over a more qualified person is inherently unfair and sets the lesser qualified person up for failure.  Also, these policies breed resentment and fuel racial discord.

4. Get rid of the liberal socialist, PC, white-male-guilt stuff being preached on college campuses.  I know, this will be next to impossible.

That's a start, but current events say the agitators are making more headway than the peacemakers.

I've got a few ideas.

Tell the friggin press that when a motorcyclist runs from the cops and wrecks and dies then it doesn't need to be reported "A BLACK motorist was killed today when he crashed his motorcycle while fleeing from two WHITE police officers. But the press feels like they have some kind a moral responsibility to fuck up the country so we fight each other and they have something to report.

I thought of this question while reading another thread.  There have been some really good posts on here. It seems that a lot of the racial issue could/would be solved if some simple things were changed.

1. If you live in the United States of America you are an American.  Plain and simple.  Not something else+American.
2. We should all be judged on own merit and not given any different treatment (good or bad) due to the color of our skin.  The government needs to drop this failed affirmative action experiment/project.  Only qualified people should be accepted to college or hired for a certain position.  If you lack the skills or qualifications for acceptance into something don’t whine that you were discriminated against.  You simply did not have the skills needed.
3. Stop ALL hate mongers.  This includes those who claim to be reverends. I am sorry but how does one claim that they want to be treated equal but have EXCLUSIVE TV channels, college grant programs, beauty pageants, and trade groups? Why are these necessary??? Seems like discrimination to me.  I thought the whole argument was to be equal???
4. End the ridiculous reparation argument. Many other peoples came to this country with but the shirts on their backs and were successful. The idea that the black community has not had the same opportunity as anyone else to get ahead is crazy.  I guarantee that if some “African-Americans” would trace their ancestry back to Africa they would find out quickly that the quality of life they enjoy here and now is far superior to what they would have had.
5. Stop the Media hype.  The media loves to report that a white officers arrest or stop a large number of ________(enter your favorite minority here).  They fail to report that the officer was working in a predominately_________(again enter your favorite minority group here) area.  Common sense tells us he( the cracker officer!!! JK guys) will arrest more non-white because he is working a non-white area.  Stop the HYPE!

I feel the same way. I think we are stuck waiting for a miracle.
