What would Mr.Clean4hire do?

Dear Mr.Clean4hire:

My manager got duped and now I have the bill for $213.00. Pretty good scam if you ask me, now I need to declare war! What would you do?

Here is how the scam goes down. The scammer (an out of state vendor) calls during a known busy time of day for my retail food service business and asks for a manager. The scammers knows we have a new credit card system (my credit car company probably sold them my info.) The scammer asks, “How the system is working?” Manager replies “system is fine.” Scammer says, “He is verifying our address and information for our “order.” The manager verifies the address, his name and our “Order” for the business. We never ordered anything from this out of state vendor. The supplies arrive vie Fed X ground two weeks later and two weeks after that I have a invoice for 3 times the amount the supplies would have cost me to buy at staples. $100 worth of shit for $300.

It’s a total racket and I’m really aggravated we got taken. The vendor is out of state and does not answer my calls. The invoice is really slick. Net 30, 1.5% (now that’s a bargain.) They even have the name of their professional Accounts Receivable and Commercial Collection Agency on the invoice. Any ordinary sucker would just pay it and move on…

I guess I’m the unordinary kind of sucker. Mr.Clean4hire with all due respect, what would you do?

Sincerely,

Johndiller.

P.S. If Mr. C is not around I’ll take input from the hive on what Mr. C would do and what I should do.

Didn't he go park the bucket of his back hoe over his water so the city couldn't shut it off?

Oh fuck, in before SM3, Evil_ATF, and MrClean4hire.

Did I forget anyone?

We used to get scammers call all the time when I worked at Natchez and tell us they were the maintenance service for our copiers. They would then ask what make they were, to which I would reply "Smith and Wesson". They would pause and ask what model, and I would reply "686". Then they would say "OK, thank you." and hang up.

Taggage to see what MrClean4Hire would do.

What am I missing? If there is no order paperwork, why can't you treat this as unsolicited goods arriving via mail, and tell your CC company you are disputing any charges? Or just not pay the invoice?

EDIT: Oh, nevermind, one of your guys verbally approved the order?

In on 1 tag.

Mr.Clean4Hire is the pimp right?

Drum roll please.....
Link Posted: 9/14/2009 5:41:21 PM EST
Common scam.

One of my sister's dipshit store girls fell for it.
She got a case of notepaper and a bill for around $300.
Link Posted: 9/14/2009 5:42:46 PM EST
The Manager "verbally" confirmed the order.

PIMP? Please...

Mr. C is The Man!

Happen to me a long time ago.

This one is easy.

Ask them for the PO number. No PO, no fucking check. No fucking exceptions.
Link Posted: 9/14/2009 5:43:52 PM EST
I would send it back via fedex and dispute the charge
Link Posted: 9/14/2009 5:53:13 PM EST
I don't get the scam. So they sent you shit you didn't order and then invoiced you for it? How do they expect to ever collect? What leverage do they have? None it would seem.

Ya, I Know I could just do that but...it would be much cooler if I could f––K with them while i'm at it.

Don't get me wrong, I just need the problem "resolved."

The problem is resolved as soon as you ask for a PO. Even if you don't use PO's they don't know that.

Trust me they have heard the words "What PO were you issued" about a million times.

This. Also, do NOT sign for ANYTHING without knowing the PO. Accounts receivable must follow strict procedures.

I thought in cases where it was unsolicited sales call, and you receive items without ever ordering them, they become your property free.

They get paid a lot.

Even by a company like mine. I open all the mail and approve all the checks personally.

The ones that almost get me by are Yellow Pages.

You will get a bill that looks like your Yellow Pages bill for 3 or 400 bucks. Those can get paid sometimes before you realize it is a scam and it wasn't really the guys that you bought advertising with.

We get those Yellow Pages ones at least twice a month too. Somewhere on there in about .05 font size it says that it's not an invoice.

So they won't/can't do anything if you don't pay for the items that they sent? They're just hoping people go ahead and pay for it?

OP, did they say that they were calling "on behalf of the Discover Card Network"? I get a lot of calls from companies like this but I always just tell them I"m not interested and don't give out any personal info. We just switched our MAP to get better rates and I just got another one of the "Discover" calls today... we better not get a box of worthless shit in a few days.

I’m checking out here on the east coast.

This thread is begging for a hijack.

Mr. Clean please let me know what to do? Please?

Diller out.

Send them a letter telling them to have FedEx come fetch their unsolicited merchandise by XX date, and anything after that will be subject to storage fees untill YY amount of time. After that the merchadise is forfeited and the bill will be sent to collections.

First off, Mr. "C" would never fall for a scam like that.

If one of his managers fell for it, he would Bitch Slap the manager and then Bitch Slap the scammer.

He might just Bitch Slap you, for disrespectfully suggesting that he could be such a sucker.
