From the ol' recguns site... Yeah, a .22LR.

"In the scene where Leon is impersonating a SWAT-officer and is being treated by a medic there's another "real" SWAT-officer carrying an AR15/M203. The officer is holding the weapon with the muzzle up and you can clearly see that the 20-round clip is a hollow fake in which there's a smaller 9mm or .22" clip visible. The officer removes any doubt by swinging the rifle from left to right a couple of times so that you can get a clear view!"

It's at 1:30 of this video. If I had to guess, I'd say it's some sort of mock-up gun. It kinda looks like a AR w/ a wierd 10 round mag and a grenade launcher, but the carrying handle looks different.

22 LR rifle made by Jaeger

can't think of the name right off the top of my head

Mitchell imported them

also Galils and AK 22 LR clones

The swat coppers in the 1978 Dawn Of The Dead had the same rifles

AP-74.  Jaeger and (for a short time, mid-eighties) EMF sold them.  Blowback operated semi-auto, looked like an early (no forward assist) AR-15.  Took a ten round magazine that slid up into a 'mock' 20-rd magazine permanantly fixed in the mag well.

Available in 22LR and () .32 APC !

A fellow ARFCOMer had (has?) an full size repro of an M1 carbine in .22 by Erma.

When it wasn't a jam-o-matic, it was a fun little rifle.
