They didn't get bigger than they were in the 1970's. I think that the 1979 Lincoln Continental may have been the biggest (definately the longest) non-limousine ever made. The 1960's cars had great features and sleek body styles. The suicide doors on the 1960's Lincolns were super cool. But if you want great body styles, you have to go back to the late 50's. The 1957 Cadillac Eldorado and the 1958 Lincoln Continental are two of the coolest looking cars I have ever seen. The 80's and 90's were nothing to write home about, and neither are the cars of today.

I would have to say that the 70's were the best. What can I say? I love big cars and in the 70's they were all huge.

i always like the old custom coaches of the 20's and 30's. each one was a work of art.

I have to agree the 30s had some very awesome custom luxury cars. Nothing has the looks of the old Cadillacs, Lincolns, Cord, Packard some with coach builder custom bodies. The 50 to early 60s the cars still looked classy. The 70s they were just bloated. The 80s -90s everything looks the same.

The biggest non-limo cars ever made were the late 1960's, early 1970's Chrysler Imperials to the best of my knowledge (excepting Duesenburgs and such). As far as the "best" luxury cars go, I think today's cars are far better. JMHO, YMMV.

I'm pretty sure the biggest distinction goes to the Chrysler Imperial.

I would say 60's. They were still road warrior fodder back then, but amenities were coming into place. 70' was the start of .gov intervention for emissions and safety, etc, and thus beagn the decline ot the American auto.

i gotta agree with this as well dusi's,packards and pierce arrow's FTW.

ya really dont see anything comparable in "got rocks" big boat terms until the 70's IMO

Now by far.

More comfortable, smoother ride, quieter, better gas mileage, faster, better handling, more reliable

Now style is subjective, But I can say I'd take a new 745il over pretty much any old luxoboat.

+1 re late '60s/early 70's Mopar luxo barges. Imperial, New Yorker, Fury, Monaco.....C bodies rule. Land yachts yes but they actually could handle & haul ass.

Where is NEVER?

Sorry to say, but the quality of what I have seen in most American made cars (not the American owned car companies i.e. Jaguar, Volvo, etc.) match that of their euro counterparts. I have REALLY wanted to buy American, but just don't feel like I am getting the quality that I pay for out of the big 3. The body parts and the interior of Cadillacs and Lincolns just looks plastic compared to that of BMW and Mercedes (hell even the Jap stuff), so I have taken that route. My friend has a new Suburban and the interior is "cheesy" compared to that of my Land Rover, and they were the same price! The leather was thin, and the wood dash was fake. Don't try rant on me on the quality of the Land Rover, I have LR3 an got the Motor Trend SUV of the year last year! They are owned by Ford, but again they are made out side of the U.S.
