I 've heard references to these excersizes over the years, what were they? US/Euro wargames against the hordes of commie tanks?

They were excercises to test the ability of the US (In concert with it's allies and the German host) to bring units to Germany and quickly add them to the fight should the soviet block go for it.

That's a simplification but it gets to the meat of it.

What were they? 3 to 4 weeks of living in the COLD! My first REFORGER was winter of 1985. We were living in an old run down German school house and parking our aircraft out back in a farmers field. They were usually kinda fun, but always in the WINTER!!!!

Well, that's how it should be, isn't it?

I mean, it's only a game.

IRL, it doesn't happen very often, anyway.

TO OpFor, CJ

Eg if you're on 'Blue' you can't 'go red'

And I would hope that THAT doesn't happen much, for sure...

Cold, that’s what they were.

Picture a canvas tent frozen solid like a thin sheet of wrinkled drywall.

One of my best friends was part of a Reforger  exercise in the 80's.  Not sure of the year but it was between 85-87.   He was in the 45th National Guard Division.   Not sure if they had switched from infantry to air assault by that time but he did talk about being cold and wet the whole time.
