We had a soldier stop into the store last month while he was on leave from the Middle East, real nice young man and we helped him get into a CCW class at the last minute.  Now we have decided to unofficially adopt him while he is deployed. We are saving catalogs, books and magazines since his biggest complaint was boredom and the need for something to read. We also have some swimsuit calendars to send over for him and his buddies.

What else is good to send or needed?

We plan to ship USPS flat rate, what is the max weight for over seas?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but i figured if anyone knew the answers it would be people who have went over, or had family go over. Thanks

If you know what his tastes are, paperback books, magazines (no porn), cards, pre packaged snacks (no pork), baby wipes, video games, video movies (no porn).

I say no porn or pork products because if they go through customs he'll not get that item or anything else in the same package.  Don't want to offend any rag head mother fuckers, and we all know how touchy they can be.

Don't send any chapstick or hand sanitizer. I think that there must be 10,00,000 tubes of the stuff in Iraq.

It really depends on where he is and what he has access too.

I spent several months in a FOB that had NOTHING so I was happy to have most anything.

Then moved to COB Speicher where we had most everything we needed.

Easily transportable foods that don't melt easily are great.

current magazines are great too.

It depends where he is deployed to and what his MOS is.

He could be living it pretty or living outside the wire.

small items that fit in his back pack. I send over wipes, crystal lite packs, candy, little army men to give out to the kids, magazines, slim jims, cool aid packs, etc. But the most important thing I send is from my cub scouts, they make drawings and such... the guys over there love the stuff the kids make the best...

Max Weight is 70lbs. Get the special APO/AE Flat rate boxes from the post office. They are bigger and you can fit more stuff in them. You can also get them online delivered with the forms if you want. They say APO/AE Flat Rate, We support the troops. You can ship them for about 11.00.

depending on his likes, good quailty tabacco products snuff cigars are hard to come by- when you are at a base with a px and if they get in any good cigars or snuff at all it is gone in like a day.

I would have loved it if someone would have taken the time and sent me some really good books. There is no good books in AFG, whenever we took a mission to Kandahar I would go to the library there and I would always be disappointed because it would be full of romance novels. Who the fuck sends romance novels to soldiers....

Zombie novels
Sci-fi of all types especially military sci-fi
whenever we stopped at a post with a px I always bought a copy of the magazine "Guns" you could send those
A crock pot.
xbox games
movies burnt onto a hard drive
canned air
