Some members of my family got together and got me an Ipad 2 for my birthday. As of right now it sits in a dock next to my bed as a $600 alarm clock. My wife likes it for the pandora streaming radio, but i'd sure love to find something useful for it too.
What cool stuff can I do with this thing besides check the bank in my bed without breaking out my laptop? I don't regularly carry a satchel, so I don't foresee carrying it around very often. |

E-books.
Otherwise I don't see the use of tablets for consumers like me. I think they'd be useful for doctors if they were integrated into an electronic health record of some kind. They'd also be useful for recipe references while I am cooking. Would spare me the effort of transcribing from computer. |

The only thing I use the girlfriend's Ipad for is Ar15 and for my mobile porn command center.

There's a couple good iphone apps that will port over well. Do you reload? Get the ballistics app to track your load performance data. There is also an FFL finder app that will give you directions to the closest FFL based on your current location. Lots of fun when out of home area and looking for oddball C&R scores.

I'll tag this for later.
I use the calendar and my son plays Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. |
|
It fits nicely on the small of the wife's back if she's on all fours. It also streams porn quite nicely. I'm sure you can figure out the rest.

Ballistics programs are awesome
Main use is net surfing, don't even use the main pc in most cases. |

... Main use is net surfing, don't even use the main pc in most cases. Same here. I use it for all net surfing now. Its nice for traveling too, so if you've got a few extra minutes and wanna surf the web or something, you don't have to wait for a laptop to boot up. It turns on instantly. I like it for books as well. I do a lot of reading on it. Classics are free, and I dig the classics. But my primary use is reading emails, couch web surfing, etc. |
|
My nieces took it and started making their own movies. They are pretty glib and creative and well, silly little girls. Good for movies on a plane, train, or back seat of a car.
Should be a good reader and e-mailer while on the road also. Atomic Browser should get you past the Adobe flash content issue. |
|
I use mine for a lot of stuff. Lots of web surfing, full sites, not mobile. Netflix, HBO GO, The Onion, reading comic books, reading newspapers, playing some awesome games: Infinity Blade, Scrabble, Ticket To Ride, etc. I love that I can carry it around anywhere. Try an app called GoSkyWatch. I also use it for work with RDP and SSH clients to talk to my servers.
|
|
i use mine to check mail, check news, and log my shit at the range when testing handloads.
I use an app called "Ballistic" by Jonathan Zdziarski. |
|
I'd thought of getting one for teaching/presentations. The idea was to use a video cable to connect it to a project and use Keynote. The iPod Touch can act as a remote to change slides and all. In the end I think I'll be better off just using a laptop. The iPad is just too damned expensive for what it is.

The iPad is just too damned expensive for what it is. I agree. IMO outside of basic entertainment it seems silly that people are more then willing to go out of there way to try to get the ipad to do things are that so much easier to accomplish on a netbook/laptop. Too me that's assbackwards but @ $600, you got to try to justify that purchase to yourself and others. |

Start playing Angry Birds. Every screen in every TOC I went into in Afghanistan had this game on. No thanks. Everyone in Afghanistan had a gun. Did you eschew carrying one because it was too 'mainstream'? |

I have a few engineers I work with put all of their useful documents on it and use it as a reference. I dont know if you want to take your iPad to the field, but it could be useful to read docs and other work material in garrison. ETA: For example, a network guy I work with has every single Cisco book, bulletin, and chart he would ever need on his iPad. Sure beats lugging around 400# of books into the lab.

That's what I came in here to post. |

I dig Tosh.O, and I don't care what device he hit (iPad or Android tablet), that was stupid and wasteful. |
