I acquired a window from a C-5 a few years ago.  It has been sitting in my garage since then because it is too cool (and heavy) to throw out.  Give me some ideas of what I could do with it!

Making a coffee table has been mentioned but I'd like to hear some other things the collective mind of the arfcom can come up with.

It is 32" tall, 2" thick, and about 150 lbs.

Not trying to get rid of it, want to turn it into something for around the house.

Retirement gift...they could turn it into a (very heavy) plaque.

See if a frozen chicken will penetrate it.

I was thinking about doing this.  I might wind up making a coffee table/shadow box with all my shit.

Mount it in the bathroom door (so you can see if it's occupied).

Choot it!

Actually, I wouldn't shoot it, but I don't know what I would do with it either.  It's cool though.

I had a friend many years ago that would do etch or engraved art in small 4" sections cut from Lear Jet windscreens for executive desk decor. If the windscreen came from your unit aircraft?, find a place that does glass art and put some history deployment locations, dates, Unit insignia. And make it mean something like a conversation piece or memorabilia.

Build your own.  You have a window to start with. Might need a bigger garage.

I'd be tempted to mount it into a solid core front door.

I like the coffee table idea.

I really like aircraft part art.

I'd make a table that is a shadow box out of it.  Hanging it would be a challenge - what to hang it with and where it would stay without falling.

Basically use it as the see through portion of the table.  Build the box that holds everything underneath it as as slide out drawer.  I bet it would work great.

Only other alternative is to use it in a bar set up somehow...

Isn't that how most ARs are born?

"I have this extra hand guard...what should I do with it?"

LOL.  It's just like Thanksgiving dinner- stuffing left on the plate, need to go back for more turkey.  Can't run out of everything at once.  Got an extra set of A1 furniture right now, so what to do......what to do.

My dad had one out of a C-141 and he had it framed and made into a table. Was pretty cool though heavy as shit.  If you go the table rout make sure the joinery is overbuilt to take the weight.

Have some sort of miscellaneous aviation orientated picture (cloud deck, another aircraft in formation, landscape, etc - something that would be seen outside a c-130 window) mounted behind the glass and hang on wall in man cave like framed art.

I agree with others that have said coffee table. Since it is yours to keep, I would find a place that does either sand blasting or laser engraving, and cover it in art, unit patches, line drawings of the air frame, tail number, or other things related to the A/C, or your career.

You might lose the piece, but I'll bet you could get a lot more support for cool designs, or if the laser/sand work is very expensive, if it was given to a Squadron HQ, a museum, or even back to LockMart. I don't know of that is an appealing option though.

The hardest part, I think, is finding someone who has both the artistic vision to use the available space, and the technical know-how not to ruin it completely.

I think I would have picked a smaller plane to build in your garage.

In all seriousness, I like the coffee table idea.Attachment Attached File

Although not tested for bullet resistance, they are better than the windows in any armored car. Save it, find some more and build yourself a war wagon around it.

Get aircraft skin and make a border around the glass. Make the table legs out of reinforcement spar that is used on the inside of an aircraft. The kind with the holes punched out like on bridges.  Get a C 5 picture cut out to fit and place it on the bottom but recess it down about an inch and run LED lighting with a dimmer between the glass and the photo. Make coasters out of aircraft Gauge faces.

I've got a shattered 727 windscreen. I haven't done anything with it yet. It has lived in my garage for years.

We had a couple of surplus C-141 front windows when I was stationed at McChord.  One got made into a side table, one became a "why not?" ballistic testing tool.  For the record no pistol round penetrated it, not even 7.62X25, 30 cal carbine did not penetrate it, but all normal centerfire rifle rounds did, .223, .308, etc.  If a bad guy steals an airliner, use a big rifle, 50BMG penetrated it very well.
