[ARCHIVED THREAD] - What to do with $1300?

I'm closing out one of my brokerage accounts and will have about $1300 coming next week.

I have been thinking about buying a couple more Krugerrands or Maple Leafs and stashing the remaining money as an emergency supply.

Any other ideas?

I suppose I could buy an STI 2011 with it but I would prefer this money to be dedicated to some sort of cash savings.

I haven't ruled out buying a gun yet, so ideas for guns are always welcome.

Pick a good pro-RKBA Senate candidate and send him $25 or so - there are six right now that are ahead of their opponent or running even and will replace an anti in the Senate if they get elected. That has to be worth a few bucks.

$1300 won't buy much gold, about 3 oz. It will buy a lot of silver. About 200 1 oz coins

If the SHTF, you could buy 1/2 a town with a single Kruggarand. Noboby can change it. Silver is far more usable.

Investment wise, silver has a lot of manufacturing uses and current demand outstrips supply, thereby long term it should increase in value.

Screw buying silver coins that are troy ounce. There is a huge premium on those. Coins from 1964 and before are 90% silver and can be had at spot price. I find that silver coins are great as they come in varying denominations... dime, quarter, half dollar and silver dollar.

I've already got about $300 worth of silver. Most of it is in pre-'64 coins, though I do have about a dozen silver liberty dollars. I also have a 10oz ingot from Engelhard (sp?).

I also have a variety of gold coins, from 1/10 oz up to 1 oz. I was looking at more 1 oz coins because they are easier to keep up with than 10 $5.00 pieces :)

But I would like to have a good amount of folding money as well for emergencies short of SHTF.

thats only like 4 one oz RANDS right now... gold is high... i would wait for it to take a dip before investing...
