So, I'm deploying to Afghanistan in a couple days, and the Air Force being what it is set us up with an 30 hour layover in Norfolk.  Other than drink my body weight in yuengling what else is there to do?

Does Hooters still run the all-you-can-eat wings on Thursdays?  I'd do that.  Along with the Yuengling, of course.

I did 2 weeks down there for training, stay off the streets after sunset is about all I would recommend.

In the immediate area, not much.  The area around ORF is light industrial and down Military Hwy, there's some shopping, but it's meh.

If you have a rental car, I'd get on I264 and head down to the oceanfront.  It'll be kind of dead this time of year, but at least it's something to do.

The battleship Wisconsin is tied up  right by a great maritime museum in the downtown area. Good place to spend an afternoon.

Anytime I'm in that area, I make it a point to visit Nauticus, where the Wisconson is moored, and the Aquarium in VA Beach. It's down the coast about 10 minutes from the strip.

Quoted for the truth!

.......and stay the hell away from Portsmouth unless you want to get robbed at gunpoint with a Lorcin .380 (which was probably purchased from Bob's), then your shoes taken away.

In all actuality, just head to Downtown Norfolk. Plenty of nice restaurants to eat at.

....or take a cab to VA Beach, and hit up the Geisha. Fucking amazing food, but watch out- last time I went I'm pretty sure my eyebrows got burnt a little bit.

OMFG is the 7-11 still in business by the main gate for the Naval Hospital?

I remember when I moved out there and stopped by the 7-11 a Portsmouth Cop told be to get back in the truck and follow him down the road because they just got done pulling a body out of the dumpster

At least somethings stay the same

The 7-11 at Elm and George Washington Highway near the shipyard is a real gem, too.

Not sure if its still open or not; I'm pretty sure it is. I don't venture over there too often, and spend most of my time in VA Beach.

Portsmouth HAS gotten better......they've really built up the area, especially after demolishing Fairwood Homes. Portsmouth is still ghetto as hell though....now it just looks nicer.
