My grandpa has a springfield 1903a3, all original parts, from WWII.  He also has the original scope(he thinks its the original scope anyway).  It doesnt have the crosshairs.  instead it just has one single radius going from the bottom to the center aimpoint.  Anyone know when we switched over to the crosshairs?  I've got the guns serial number somewhere but i cant dig it out atm...maybe ill post it later if i find it.

Single post reticles have been made/used for many years.....  Still are, by some folks.

If you could post more info on the scope (manufacturer, model, a few pics) there's a good possibility someone here will be able to tell you more about it.

I can't get any pics but ill dig up the number later when i get some time to get on the other PC.  The main thing i wanna know is wether it was common to issue single post reticles with 1903a3's during the war.  I wanna see what the chances are of this being the original scope.

The rifle will soon be mine :D   He is going to give it to me in when he stops hunting.  He stopped hunting this year so....  :)

M1903A3's were not issued with scopes at all. M1903A4's were sniper rifles.
