To heck with the shadow, how about the round captured exiting the muzzle blast? Just based on what I can see and compared to the rest of the ship, the round looks bigger than 3" or 5" diameter. |

That is a Us Navy Mk45 5 inch naval gun mount. Its barrel is 54 calibers in length. Judging from the VLS tubes on the deck, that is either a late-series Spruance class or late-series Ticonderoga class - the ones with VLS.

I KNOW that it would, however never having seen such a thing was what made me go wow. I've seen other hi speed pictures of rounds in flight. Like the one of a round flying through an apple or the one of it splitting a playing card. |

It's actually the other way around, inside the red line is the gun traverse/swing area. Outside the line is the safe walkway area. Not that you'd want to be up on the bow while the mount is firing. The concussion is no fun to be near. |

you multiply the diameter of the bore..5 by the cal..54 to get the length of the barrel
in inches 270inches or 22'6". And that is a DDG. |

You think that is big, You should have seen the 18" that they have!
Insane when you can get yourself into that bbl. ( well atleast us skinny guys anyways) I worked a base a few years ( ok more than a few) ago that had a pneumatic 18" INSANE I tell ya |
