I thought we were just supposed to get rid of the regime and set up a new government. Shouldn't keeping the peace inside their own country be up to them? |

Find Sadam guilty as charged.
Have an election where they vote for their leaders. Made a deal "they can't refuse" with their oil.

Why would we want to leave so soon? I think having troops on the borders of Iran and Syria would be quite a useful thing.

We'll have large-unit basing in Iraq LONG after the Iraqi Baathists are dead, long after Saddam's endless trial is over and HE is dead, LONG after we've smoked the 2nd, 3rd and 4th tier of Al Queda, LONG after the Sunni Baathists running Syria are smoked, LONG after the Iranian nuke-crazy mullahs are smoked, LONG after the House of Saud has fallen. |

1) Install a democratic & freely elected government 2) Train & equip the Iraqi military, police & intelegence services. 3) Reduce the remaining insurgent movements to a point where the forces we have trained can handle them 4) Reach a point where the elected government agrees that our services are no longer required Basically, don't be in a hurry to leave, there's still plenty of work to be done... 2-5 years worth... |

Stabilize the government then build bases to support further operations in the middle east. We won't be leaving there for a long time.
