I had a pair of Coyote wraparounds. i got them for $75 at REI, but after ten months I lost them. Summers coming, so I need a new pair. What kind of wraparound glasses do you guys like? I shoot with my sunglases, so thats something to keep in mind. I was thinking about Oakley military glasses or some Wileys. Any comments?
Thanks guys. PS, if you are looking for glasses, Coyotes are great, really strong and the lenses dont scratch. I might get another pair, but I want to look into other options first. |

After I got my LASIK done, I bought two pairs of high-dollar sunglasses. I got a pair of Maui Jim polarized polycarbonates which were outstanding, until they broke when I was skiing.
I also got a pair of Oakley XX (Twenties). They are cool but my wife says they make me look like an alien. This is a plus in my book. |
|
Look at Smith brand sunglasses. They make a line called sliders. They have removable lenses and they come with 3 different ones. A clear set, an amber set (good for shooting) and a dark set. I have an older pair of Sliders.

I have a pair of ray-bans that are polarized,
and i will not leave the house with out them, this is my second pair in about 4 years, I stepped on the first pair. (DOH!) I love them |

I have worn a pair of Serengeti for years, I like them. http://store.yahoo.com/shadesaver/serdrivgradm.html

I've owned lost and broke 3 pairs of Bolle glasses. They weren't wrap around style but they are a great quality pair of sun glasses. My current ones are RayBans' They are built like a tank..and weigh about the same!

|
I like Gargoyles legends series. They have polycarbonate lenses that will stop a shotgun pellet or a .22 bullet.

vaurnet- good glass lenses- NOT recommended for shooting or any balistic protection thought- just very clear lenses.

My wife can get Maui Jim, Ray Bans, and most other high-end sunglasses at wholesale prices through work. Did I mention how much I love my wife for the:http://www.mauijim.com/mjweb/public/catalog/consumer_sunglass_product.jsp?WS909FRAMESTYLEID=140&WS943IMAGENAME=LFG140-02.jpg!

Oakley.
Great styles, great optics, and if you have any problems they warranty just about anything you can do to them (other than scratch the lenses). Example: My sweat was turning a pair of X-Metals I own black, literally reacting electrically to the metal and turning it a different color. Hardly their problem, right? I called Oakley to see if it was possible to have them refinished, at my expense. So what did they do? Let me talk to a guy in their Metallurgy (How many damn sunglass companies even HAVE a metallurgy dept????) who explained the process, and then they exchanged them for a pair of more expensive and chemically neutral Titanium frames, and even "tuned them up" with new rubber inserts and nose pads etc...while they had them. All in all, a fix that was not cost effective for them, and certainly wasn't their fault. I'm forever a customer. My shooting glasses are Oaks and they come with a variety of quick-change lenses to suit whatever the light, from clear lenses to the coolest of coatings, and they exceed ANSI reccomendations for imapct protection. Downside is they ain't cheap and you'll never find them on sale unless they are fakes or the dealer is going out of business. Sale prices are a no no per the factory rep. That said, I own several pairs and cannot recommend them enough. RF |

I've got a set of a four year old Oakley style that I like.
Have a look at ones with springs built-into the frames if you've never had them they're nice. |
|
BYU: My Maui Jims were the Rocky Points. Really light and just a phenomenal lens. I had Croakies on them when I was skiing and reached up to adjust them...they broke right at both hinges. I think it was a combination of the tension from the Croakies and the butt coldness.

I use two brands exculsively, Ray Ban and Serengetti. Both are optically correct high impact. Ray Bans for bright days and Serengetti's for not so bright days or fog.
The difference in glasses is the same difference you see in cheap gun optics and good gun optics. It's your eye that does the aiming so why waste your expensive gun optic by using non-optically correct sun glasses. Best ever was Serengetti Sportsmans. Metal wrap arond frame and photo sensitive lens that went from yellow to brown. They were designed with shooting in mind and pilots. Have a pair and need a new frame but haven't seen them in years. |

I was king of the $10 sunglasses for years, through school, and after. Then a friend talked me into a pair of Revo's ($170.,pre Ray-Ban), and I wore then for 7 years! After they were too far gone, I bought some regular Ray-Ban's, but they only lasted a week, and I had to have some new Revo's ($240). This pair are going on 3 years.

I wear a pair of silver Oakley C-wires with the ICE Blue Lens. Bever that, I had a pair of Bolle Europiums (do I need to explain why I droppped that pair)?
Granted, it is easier for me to go back and forth like this, I am an Oakley dealer so I usually make myself a good 'special sale price' when I want something. |

My vote is for Oakleys. Here's mine:
and here's whats on my list: |

I have a hard time finding sunglass's that will fit my broad face w/flat nose bridge.
My favorite are military issue Aviator sunglasses mfg. by RANDOLPH ENGINEERING with gold frames and dark grey lenses, bayonet temples, plus RE makes these in three different sizes: small, medium, large most other sunglass makers only make one size. my favorite "RAY BAN" sunglass is the "CLUBMASTER" with dark G15 lenses, they have a classic 1950's look. I wear Lucky Flys from Black Flys.
I originally had the tortoise shell ones, but lost them in a gunstore in CA. I replaced them with matte black ones, which had an unfortunate meeting with asphalt at 160mph+. (drag racing my bike, glasses were in my jacket pocket and popped out at reasonably high speed.) We were able to locate the frames and one lens, but we couldn't find the other lens or the emblem that came out of the left earpiece. I replaced them with a translucent blue pair, but realized I prefer the matte black most of the time. I popped the smoke lenses out of the blue ones, and popped them into my black frames. I've been wearing them since. I plan to get a set of replacement lenses for the blue ones, but i put it off since I can only wear one set at a time. I figured any frames that could handle a 160mph crash with the ground and still hold their shape were good glasses. I'll continue to use them. I've got a backup set of black Arnettes, but they usually stay on the mannequin since her eyes are kinda creepy. |

Brown framed BCG's with prescription lenses. Yeah, they're kind of ugly, but they were free. [8D]

Lightfighter, you have Wileys on your website, but not Oakleys. How are the Wileys? Judging by the price they are kinda cheap, but if they work it would be nice not to ever worry about them.

Gatorz T606 billets made me give all my other sunglasses away.

Quoted: I have a hard time finding sunglass's that will fit my broad face w/flat nose bridge. View Quote I have the same problem. I have a pair of the Oakley M-Frames. I can wear them all day doing construction work and never have to adjust them once. Also They're super comfortable and won't leave pinch marks on the bridge of your nose. |

I love my Wiley X Romer II glasses. They also have interchangable lenses. Mine came with clear, rust, and blued (dark).
|
|
I'll give another vote to Oakley. I have a pair of A-Wires and a pair of Zeros I got 8 years ago.
I have had my Zeros replaced 4 times costing me a grand total of $15, Oakley's customer sevice is top notch. |
|
Persol, but they're hella expensive. Why? Because they're the best.

Free! [:D]
Have Smith Sliders right now but also like Oakleys (forget which models). |
|
I have a variety of Ocean Waves in differnt lens colors depending on where/when I'm fishing, but for daily use, I have Maui Jims. Either way, it's gotta be polarized.

If there is a style that you like, BUY IT -- they make nice stuff. |

I use Maui Jims.
Not cheap, but they take a good beating and still feel good after a couple of years. I think mine cost about 3 bills and I'd do it again. |
|
Another vote for Oakleys, my everyday (on my second pair) sunglasses, and both of my shooting glasses are made by them. I do have a pair of Ray-Ban Clubmasters I wear with a suit. I just love the 50's retro look of them.
|

I'm looking at Oakleys. Expensive, but I think I can keep these a while. Its about what I would spend on a case of ammo.
Oakley has a frame color called 556 FMJ! |

In fact, it has a Web site dedicated to that area (www.military.oakley.com) that has product you may be interested in. Again, a vote for Oakleys. A little expensive, but I have presciptions and I wanted something that looked good. The full wrap around prescript lenses are awesome, I can see to the side now.

OK, Im looking into Oakley XX and Straight Jackets. How do these sound? Is the polarized lens worth the money? Both of these are in the military line also, whats the difference?
|
|
Unless you step on them, drop them off the boat, or let the 2 years old play bendy with them [:)], I don't think you'll go wrong with:
Serengeti Oakley Maui Jim Peresol Zeiss Polarizing is a plus for water sports but distracting when dealing with window tints. I'd pick the one that fits the following criteria: Impact requirements, Budget, Fit, Style. Oakleys don't fit me well, so I go with Serengeti's and Maui Jims. Whatever you choose, I hope they don't look dorky on you. |

I have the ONLY pair of Oakley Romeos with Polarized/Polycarb/Ruby lenses on the planet and I LOVE THEM!!
Here's a pic: Here's a pic of my wife's Juliets with the same type lenses (ALSO the ONLY ones like this on EARTH): |

... Each summer I like to treat myself to a new pair of sunglasses. It's something I've been doing for years.
I'll research the new brands, comparison shop and usually zone in on a newer model. Eyeglass / sunglasses design is a competitve business and we reap the benefits. The downside is that they are getting somewhat expensive but hey, what's your eyesight worth. ... One of my last summer purchases was the Oakley - X Metal XX (superb design) shown here: ... At about $325 a pair, you'll want to heed my longtime advice to friends: [red]"On your Face or in the Case[/red]" ... This summer I'm looking into the Oakley - Half Jacket FMJ like this one: |
