I posted pics of my adopted dog about 7 months ago. I picked him up from the shelter. I wasn't sure what he was but now he is about full grown and I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas of what he might be mixed with. I know one has to be Golden Retriever. But I have no idea the other.

Full grown he is barely knee high for me (I'm 6'3''). He is super smart. Potty trained in about a week, with accidents occasionally about a month. Crate trained first week. Super smart knows about 10 different commands (Sit, Stay, sit pretty, roll over etc. etc.). He is weighing consistently for last 3 months at 30 lbs. He has alot of black spots in his mouth, on his tongue, gums.

He loves to stand on two legs, walk etc.

So any guesses on what this Golden is mixed with? I've heard everything from labrador, border collie to some other ones like great pyranees.

Here is his pic on the first day:

Here he is now

And side view to see size:

Child looks possessed. I fear for the dog. At least it isn't FO dog.

Any chance that the gums and/or tongue is black/blue?

I'd say border collie.

You typically see that on chows.

Based on the spots on the tongue and that ruff around the neck, I'm guessing there is some Chow in there somewhere.  He looks like my dog, except she's red, and her momma was half chow.

Chow, for the  mouth spots, ears and  neck ruff.  The rest?  No clue.

I can tell he's a good dog just by his looks. Looks like a heinz 57 to me.

That is for sure a dog but I am not an expert.

That's what I'm thinking.  I'm calling it:  Golden Retriever or Yellow lab and Chow mix.  Very common.  I had a dog that was indentical to this one but black and twitchy mentally (as Chows are known to be, glad yours isn't).

Having had a Chow/Border Collie mix, I would be leaning towards Golden/Chow based on looks and behavior. Very sweet looking dog, take good care of her.

Based on the last pic, I'm going to go with a "tug-of-war" dog.  -They are a good breed, you got lucky.

Looks like he has some chow in him to me. I've had full blooded and quite a few mixed. One Golden and chow mix, and Irish setter and chow mix, and a black lab and chow mix, and a few others.

That's interwsting to hear. No one has said that yet. Chows are common strays in KY where I am from. He doesn't act like a chow, accept his aggressiveness towards strangers, but it only last until they introduce themselves.

Well that's not a Chow-Golden mix unless you got yourself the runt of the litter.

For around $60, you can know for sure.

ETA:  I see that he's still under a year old.  After my first read of the op, I thought he had topped out at 30lbs.  Maybe he is a chow golden mix.

He hasn't grown in about 2.5 months is why I think he is maxed. He is at 9 months old now.

Edit: I am tempted to try this service. Not that it matters to me at all, I'm just curious.

He is a good dog that won the lottery when you saved him from the shelter.

He will forever appreciate it too.

My vet said the DNA tests were pretty much worthless.  This was about 3 years ago so things may have changed.

My bet would be yellow lab and something.

Open his mouth and take a pic.

Also, he will keep putting on pounds and muscle for another two years. He will get more stout, but not much taller, in the same way we keep building up from the time we're 18 until we hit our mid twenties or so.

I'm trying to find a pic of a dog I had that was 100% certainly a golden / chow mix, because the owners owned both full blooded animals, and they got to each other and were caught together. Some of the pups look a lot like chows, some, like mine , looked like a golden retriever but with a black tongue.

OK, this is Stucky. He is the golden / chow mix. His mouth, gums, tongue everything, blue as could be. This chain btw, is 25ft, and on a 25ft runner. He didn't stay on all the time, just when we were gone.

I had one that was full blooded black show mother with an Irish Setter sire, both dogs with papers.

This is Lucky, she's the black chow / Irish Setter mix. She was in heat, so we had her in the pen, 40x40.

Agreed.  Sarge the Wonder Dag has the same (only he's black #blackdagsmatter).

Otherwise, 100% dag.

I did it.  It explained Sarge the Wonder Dag's little tiny poops (there's some Chihuahua in there, the DNA people claim - it must be the butt part)

Wow that almost looks like two different dogs.
Edit: that hair behind the ear that looks like it was permed, Jackson has that too. Looks like one of those flat presses girls used to use in the 80s
