Right to Bear Arms
Section 21.
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.

There is also a state statute that does not allow cities or municipalities to make firearms law in contradiction to state law.

Sec. 13. That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the
people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe
defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people
to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing
armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to
liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under
strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

Article 1 Section 23

"Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime."

So by state constitution, the only laws the state legislature is allowed to pass are those which affect the CARRYING of firearms. Not the ownership thereof. God I love Texas.

Sec. 30. Militia and the right to bear arms. A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; and, as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty. they shall not be maintained, and the military shall be kept under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power. Nothing herein shall justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons, or prevent the General Assembly from enacting penal statutes against that practice.

Michigan's nifty Constitutional provision makes no mention of the hoops you have to jump through to buy a handgun, ref: registration.

It is good to see though. I hope our blue state liberal nanny state governess doesn't try to play with it.

Article 1, § 32 of the Indiana Constitution provides that “[t]he people shall have a right to bear arms, for the defense of themselves and the State.” Indiana courts have interpreted this provision to allow an individual to possess firearms for purposes of self-defense and defense of the state, subject to reasonable police power regulation.

from the Nebraska Constitution. Section 1. Statement of rights. - All persons are by nature free and independent, and have certain inherent and inalienable rights; among these are life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the right to keep and bear arms for security or defense or self, family, home, and others, and for lawful common defense, hunting, recreational use, and all other lawful purposes, and such rights shall not be denied or infringed by the state or any subdivision thereof. To secure these rights, and the protection of property, governments are instituted among people, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

Isn't TX the place with widely varying laws by county, in theory even if not in practice, how about adopting this:

2) (a) Based on the findings specified in subsection (1) of this section, the general assembly concludes that the carrying of weapons in private automobiles or other private means of conveyance for hunting or for lawful protection of a person's or another's person or property while traveling into, through, or within, a municipal, county, or city and county jurisdiction, regardless of the number of times the person stops in a jurisdiction, is a matter of statewide concern and is not an offense.
