I had a new split A/C unit and furnance installed last year by one of my friends that does HVAC, I just called him and thanked him

Yesterday, it was a humid 101 degrees here in the Twin Cities and the air temp coming out of my vents was 54.5 degrees

Whats your air temp coming out from your vents?

I have a 4.5 ton Lennox system, and usually get arounf the same (54 ish).

I've had it as low as 46 when the indoor/outdoor temp isn't too hot and humid.

I would have to check but it keeps the house plenty cool.

The air temp coming out of a vent is fairly irrellevant.

The DIFFERENCE between the air temp entering the return, and the temp at the vent, at specific ambient temperatures and humidities, is what matters.

Mine is about 59 degrees with a 79 degree return temp, when it is 100 degrees outside.

Not sure, but temp in the house was around 58 when I woke up this morning.    I like it cold when I sleep.

I'm pretty anal about my newish AC/air handler and keep a digital thermometer stuck into the vent directly above the coil, maybe 12" away.

I keep my 2+2 condo with 16' cathedral ceilings at about 80*-82* on my thermostat, from April/May through September/October.

The thermostat setting is within a degree of ambient.  I'll get a good 22*-23* difference between ambient and the vent, which is pretty good.  Cold air going out is between 56*-57*, if the place is kept cool.  I think they tell you to expect a 15*-18* drop.

49.5 line temp @ 98F outside. Last week was a very good time to give the old gal a check up.

If I could do a good way to cool off my attic THAT would make a big difference

I've got big ceiling fans in the BR and the LR, that when running, keep it comfortable for me, but if they stop, things get clamy, lol.

I don't sleep with a comforter, only a sheet and honestly, if it get's down below 80* I'm kind of chilly.

I'm in Miami and we start to panic when it's 75* out, so don't mind me.

It's 86 outside.  The A/C is set at 71.  The vents show 49.1 and the cold air return shows 67.4 on the floor level return.

I just spent a few days installing a Broan powered gable fan with great results. Well worth the time and money.

I was, and still I'm  picking up a lot of heat in the return duct up in the attack. Here are the numbers before and after installation.

Before:  101* outside temp
78* at return inlet  ( lowest indoor temp obtainable during heat of day)
98*  at hole drilled into duct at indoor unit before entering blower  (20* pick-up thru duct in attack)
            70* at nearest register

After :   101* outside
72* return inlet ( new lowest temp obtainable during day)
            87* at hole
            64* at register

Here's the fan,

I also bought the vent. Beware of the cheaper brands, they have bad reviews.

I still feel i'm picking up to much heat thru the duct and checked for loose duct but everything looks fine. I plan on insulating them a bit better.
