I'll start

Few months back I'm teaching a girl how to shoot, buddy shows up half way through to send some lead down range with us. We're out at a local outdoor range and it's a really nice day.

Few min after my friend arrives, I see a mini-van pull up to infront of one of the sections of lanes, I notice it because it has an assisted living home sticker on the side (my dad is in the business). Windows are tinted really dark, but I see the diver get out, go to the office pay the range fees and then come back. He opens the back door of the mini van, comes out with a 357 S&W revolver, and a few boxes of ammo.
Promptly, he loads the gun gets everything setup, then pulls out an extra set of ear protection and walks to the passanger side of the van.

Opens the door for the older gentelman on the passanger side, and escorts him out of the car.... here is where the problem starts.

The guy gets out with his walking stick (blind walking stick... white/red... you know the kind -- he was also wearing black glasses that were so dark I don't think anyone could of seen through them). He proceeds to tap his way up to the shooting bench with the other guy telling him "to your right, to your left" etc. -- at this point my friend and the girl I'm with are watching this somewhat concerened, we were the only other people at the range that day.

Next thing I see really scares me -- the blind guy picks up the gun and prepares to fire. Before he got off the first shot the 3 of us took off out of there.

I know the guy probably could of hit the backstop with direction, but that's scary -- there is NO way he could make sure he was pointing the gun at a safe target

So what have you guys seen at the range that made you leave or made you feel very uncomfortable???

What is the weirdest thing you've ever seen at the range?

A very large Doe! ( over 150 lbs)

We all yelled at it, she would not leave. We throw stones at it & she just ignored us, The
range master finally went downrange to chase it away & she would keep 30 yrd's distance from him but would not leave the range, The guy got tired & gave up. We couldn't shoot for the rest of the day!

Same thing happened to me at the private range I go to, there wer 7 of us in the line, and this doe just show up at the 200 yard line, grazing. We tried everything, including putting round in between and infront of the doe and she will not move off the range. We finally chased it off using our pickup, just to have it return in less than 30 minutes. We gave up going, and start cleaning our weapons. Once we cleaned our weapons, put away the targets, and stowed away the gear, the doe decidede to leave.

I've seen a lot. First one that comes to mind was a recent one at a public range. There's a skeet shooting area to the east, then the shooting benches/berms to the west separated by a parking lot. For some reason a guy comes and sets up his clay pigeon thrower between two of the shooting benches and starts shooting skeet with his buddy, between the table shared by a friend and myself, and a table with a couple other guys. We all left.

About 3 weeks ago, I was out at my local outdoor range and was just getting my stuff out of the truck when I hear really loud, "Cease Fire! Cease Fire!" in a frantic pitch. Apparently some dumbass decides to go out while the range is hot and change his targets. He got about 10 feet off the firing line when somebody noticed him. He got a royal ass-chewing and his response was: "I'm new here and I don't know all the rules yet." He was promptly escorted off and I'm sure had his range priveleges suspended for a grievous safety violation. MJD

We don't have lanes and there are no barriers. Range rules say, when changing targets, everybody on both rifle and handgun ranges have to go cold. If he had gotten out to the 50 yard line he could have been in someone else's line of fire. Regardless, common sense should state that when other people are shooting, you don't go downrange. MJD

Are you insane? Your range actually lets you walk downrange with bullets flying by either side of you?

Please tell me this is simply a matter of my sarcasm detector not working.

On a PA SGL range. This one's out of the way (for you NEPA folks, it's the one near Dallas off of Rt 118) so the PGC guys don't bother you much if you ignore the "3 round" rules and stuff.

I'm there BS'ing with a guy with a full size AR15 with some older Isreali scope that he was sighting in. I had my AR-180.

Up walks this guy with a MAC subgun. Class 3. Technically against the rules, but it was just us, no "hunters" so who cares? Had the gun, a bunch of ammo, and this funny plastic box.

In thirty minutes, at 25 yards, he fired about 50 rounds of ammo. He scored 5 hits on an FBI target. He replaced at least 5 parts. I'd never seen a firearm so determined to not work.

That has happened to me, too.
I was shooting my scoped .44 Mag. one day with a friend on the 100 yard firing range. We had been shooting! As in, MAKING NOISE! And a couple of does decided it was a nice day for walk across the firing range right at about the fifty yard mark. They walked out there, dead center and just stood there for several minutes and then slowly mosied off of the range.

I saw a three Mexicans at the range sharing a "hopped up" shotgun. It was a .410 single shot with the stock sawed off. It had rattlesnake skin glued to the forearm and a stainless hoseclamp holding the bbl to the forearm. Shithot mods man!!! or should I say "Barrio Tactical"?

I don't know what to say about the AR to the lip story. My mind is having trouble digesting that one.

Strangest things ever seen on the range? I have seen a bunch, but the funniest would be an Officer of the Law and a Meter reader who both did the same thing.

The people that own this range live at it way in the back of the property. The range has access up front and a little side road gives seperate access to the house. After serving a supenea for some tick turd reasons, the Cop got confused (I am giving him the benifit of the doubt) and turned the wrong way ot of the house. This little road gives the owners private access to the range, the problem is it takes you right smack dab to the middle of the firing line. A similar thing happened to a meter reader. So the strangest thing is CARS popping out of the tree line on to the range.

Didn't you post this story once before? Are you repeating it because you have to get it off your chest to relieve the sense of guilt you feel for being so irresponsible? It's no fun to see someone get hurt when It was fully preventable is it?

If I was still really pissed at my wife I'd add this one.

She was shooting my 1911 one day without any safetly glasses. After Me bitching at her to do it she finally put mine on. Not all the way though. For some reason it throws the next brass right between her eyebrow and the safety glasses. Small burns on her eyebrow and cheek but what was funny was her little dance to clear it out.

But were ok now so I won't post that.

Actually I had the same thing happen to me at an indoor range...casing ejected up, bounced off the motor thingie that runs the targets out, and managed to wedge itself between my glasses and my eyebrow. Blistered and scarred up nicely afterwards. That sucks. From now on, I wear a hat when I shoot there...

While in the military police I saw one of the admin types come out to the range with us to shoot the M9 beretta. She had to be prevented from discharging the pistol as she held it up about an inch and a half in front of her eyeball. She had over 25 years in the military and obviously never had the oportunity to fire a pistol. She got squared away quick. No injuries thank god.

well mine is a deer story too, but slightly different

at the 100 yard line, which is cut in to the hill a doe was walking across the middle of the hill, elavation about 30 degrees and about 150 yard. every one on the range stopped shooting, except one guy who has his bolt action rifle trained on and following the deer. well about 30 seconds later.. remember no one is shooting they all are watching the deer or the guy he lifts his head up to see if any one is watching, i guess to see if he could shoot it. he then realizes he has 30 people looking at him, he just sort of lowered the rifle and put the bullet on his target.

then there was the supposed seal who fired a 300 win mag ( not his ), as soon as he touched it off, and the blood came out of his eye brow, he proceeded to puke on the shooting bench

Once during a PPC match at the Indiana law enforcement academy a shooter was dumping his brass from his revolver to reload. One of the live cartridges standing upright in his reload tray was struck by an empty cartridge just right and it fired!!! The bullet stayed put, but the brass ripped and gave the shooter a small cut to his leg. A one in a milloin chance but the primer was struck just right by the falling empty cartridge!

It wasn't an Official range , but a closed
sand/gravel pit that I shoot at occasionally .

Myself and a friend were sitting at a makeshift
bench doing some rest shooting with bolt guns .
When suddenly a large crow landed on the bench
between us .

We both sat there in silent amazement as it walked
around for a few seconds looking at us maybe two
feet away . Then it walked over to my friends
ammo tray , grabbed a loaded round and flew away

It was the definitely the strangest and funniest thing
I can recall while shooting .
