How many magazines do soldiers who patrol in Iraq carry. I have heard conflicting stories from different friends. Some say as many as twelve some say only four. I have met members of Delta when I was deployed to Bosnia in 97and they carried as many as 18 mags 12 in pouches and 6 in their packs.

Officially 210 rounds in 7 thirty-round magazines. My guys also had 45 9mm rounds for the sidearm.

In practise, it's not unusual to carry more than this though. For example, I had somewhere akin to 280 rounds of 5.56mm, and I was the LT!

Odd stuff will show up from time to time. My default magazine was a 20-rounder, and a few of my troops liked the idea and got some of their own.

NTM

min 7 mags, max, as many as they have.

when I was there I had 12 on me, one in my m4, 12 grenades for my M203, 3 frags, and two smokes.

EDIT: that shit gets heavy in a fucking hurry

I was there in 91.

210 was minimum load (7 x 30) but everyone had a bandolier or two in the buttppack and at least 4 extra mags ready to go. Add water, vest full of 40mm, 2 rounds for the 60mm team and a 100rnd belt for the M60 team.

I know what a pack mule feels like.

Including water and vest with plates not even counting other gear how the hell could you move you must have developed some huge shoulder muscles. Damn thats more gear than I carried in Stan. Did you have to carry extra rounds for the 240 too

I was a Scout, my truck didnt have a 240 on it as I was the .50 gunner for the section, the MK19 truck had one and the guys on that truck carried 240 food when we dismounted it. we typically went fairly light with M4s and M16s and a metric assload of ammo.

and that crap was in addition to a CLS bag, Radio, batteries for stuff, demo(sometimes), and water.
running sucked with all that on
