My employer is allowing me to use my work phone as my personal phone (including data). So I am cancelling my old plan with AT&T and giving my iPhone to my fiance since her phone is old and dying. I want to be able to have my own phone line for talk and text just in case something happens with the work line. I was thinking of buying an unlocked Nokia 3310 for this purpose.

What would be a good and cheap provider that will work with the 3310 and only do voice and text?

I would keep my current personal number if I do this, so that idea would be both a failure and awkward.

Pageplus prepaid.  The flip phone for my son is like $30/yr.

I hear Freedompop is having a special for free voice/text with some data service.

I recently bought a tracfone smartphone after running my old tracfone dumbphone through the wash.

I don't do plans, just buy minutes, data, and txts as needed. Discount codes are easily found online. The smartphone is far less expensive to run. You can plug in your old phone number when setting it up.

Cost me ~$30 for the phone at walmart and so far averaging $5 a month, if that.

Ting was ok.
charged by use with a min of like 6 bucks a month as I recall.
so if you don't use it you don't pay any more than that.
Used ATT network as I recall.

I'm looking into US Mobile for cheap cell phone now. It looks good.
