Poll to come.

I would say family as I believe it is directly or indirectly the cause of the other noted problems.

The death of common sense would be the biggest factor I believe.........

The ATF.

You cant buy barrels to kits if said kits are to build guns you cant legally import whole? The ATF declared so this year. WHO GIVES THEM THE AUTHORITY TO DO THIS?

How can the ATF make rules up for itself apart from Congress? It's a law ENFORCEMENT agency, not a law LEGISLATIVE agency.

Wow! Still IBTP.

SCOTUS.

Who else could it be?

Mostly a combination of choices 2, 3, and 4

More on-topic, I agree with you that the gradual undermining of the family, and the institution of marriage - caused by all sorts of other things, like technology, individual freedoms, changing economies, etc, are at the root cause.

Too many children with no stable parent in the home, being raised by rappers, television and videogames - without strong role models and clear values.

I certainly think it is due to the "destruction of the family."

And speaking of the poll, isn't "loss of father's in the home" and the "destruction of the family" essentially the same thing?

Oh, but it's really all George W Bush's fault...
Link Posted: 9/11/2005 2:51:20 PM EDT

4, 4, 4, 4, 1, 2, 3, and 5, in that order, with 1, 2, and 3 being a direct result of 4.

Link Posted: 9/11/2005 2:53:13 PM EDT
You left out the concept of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

The lack of personal responsiblity is the number one cause of the decline of freedom and values in the U.S.

No other single thing even comes close...there's no question.
Link Posted: 9/11/2005 2:53:28 PM EDT
the people allowing it to happen before their vary eyes while being completely blind to what the future can hold. Its just a matter of time before the dems seize power again, and based upon the actions allowed and commited by this administration, the door has been left wide open.

The debt-banking system is the root of all evils in America.

destruction of family <-- my choice
loss of fathers in the home <-- it doesn't take the father leaving for a family to fall apart. He could be abusive, alcoholic and adulterous in which case the family would be better off without him
transformation of schools into socialist indoctrination centers <-- education should start within the family.
not enough church/God in our lives <-- you don't need God in your life to be a moral person (this is coming from a Christian).
uncontrolled immigration <-- definitely not helping, but it's not the worst thing out there

I like the way you think! Next time I'm in TX, I owe you a beer.

The media failed to be impartial. Hundreds of millions of people get their opinions based on what
information is printed by the press. Today, it is "cool" to be gay, "cool" to be stupid and it is just
plain wrong to expect able bodied citizens to behave in a legal and\or ethical manner, wtf?

Distrust of the US government of the 60's and 70's.

Liberalism.
IMO your poll is not a very good one.
#1 is because of #2
1,2,3, could be the result of 4

5 is more of a recent problem, and I dont think it is as much to blame- yet

But there is no #6- Liberalism

With the choices given, I would have to say #4. And #4 is the result of Liberalism

Up until the last few years it was their fault, DK.
Link Posted: 9/11/2005 3:06:01 PM EDT
It is all kind of intertwined.

Personal responsibility, Religion, good schooling, un-broken homes all go together.

If you drop personal responsibility, you will lose religion and intact families, since those two things jibe. etc, etc.

I'd type more but this topic makes me too sad.

Major factor in all of the options for sure.

Bingo!

While your poll choices are all items that can be attributed to the decline of America's values, I think that the thing that is most responsible for the decline of America's freedoms is that people let them get taken away in exchange for what they think will make them more safe, but in reality does the opposite.

Pretty much.

Women tolerate bullshit (like the social programs that have spawned the folks now buying $800 Gucci bags with their FEMA/Red Cross debit cards and the tolerance for roving packs of fatherless children who have turned the cities into blighted areas) and will vote for those who support those ideals (like Bill Clinton, who essentially was a lesbian with a dick)

It is.
If you are a baby murderer, like taking a dick up your ass, or are a criminal. All of those demographics have more rights, unquestionably. Question, subject to another thread, is should they?

Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more simply a "concept."
a Big +1 for this reason that would kick the butts of all the rest of the reasons if added to the poll

You raise a fair point but I would contend that is THE problem with America.

So what is its cause?
Just about any of those listed could be construed as responsible for the lack of responsibility.

Big +1........people today have no idea what it is like to live in tough times........they feel everytime something bad happens, however small, that someone owes them a paycheck.

Cause? Greed...as in the judicial system:
"Oh your honor! It was awful! I was in the bathtub blowdrying my hair when my Dunkin Donuts coffee spilled and scalded me and I dropped the dryer and my rubber ducky just <SOB> MELTED!!!!!!"
Judge: "The jury awards you 500 Million for your stupidity and mandates that everything from pacifyers to nailclippers have warnings posted on them so nobody else can accept responsibility for their own stupidity."

ETA: THUMPER RAISED THE POINT not I...I AGREE with Thumper though---just thought credit should be given to the driver and not the passenger of the bus.
