Ever since 9/11 the system has been backed up.

A NAC is used to grant a Secret clearance. These can take anywhere between 6 weeks to a year, depending on priority, the investigator, your background, etc. A NAC can just about be totally done from behind a computer.

If you were being investigated for a TS, the investigation could take up to two years.
