I keep hearing the media talk about the polygamists' compound in Texas.

The polygamists called it a ranch.

So what makes a compound a "compound?"
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:13:36 PM EDT
Walls
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:14:20 PM EDT
The same thing that make a pump-action shotgun, a deer rifle, a .45LC revolver and a box of ammo for each an "arsenal."
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:15:16 PM EDT
To the media, any property with more than 1 bldg, if it makes them sound more dangerous!!!
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:16:21 PM EDT
Since the press always refers to the Kennedy "compound" at Hyannisport, I believe a compound is defined as a secure multi-building structure closed to the public where someone is up to no good.
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:16:36 PM EDT
It's like a bunker but not as cool.
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:16:41 PM EDT
A compound is where someone whom the media or the government is trying to deomnise lives. Same as a 30-30 and two boxes of ammo are a cache of ammo and an arsonal if the media wants you to look like a criminal.

A fenced in building or house with a detached garage or guest house and you dont let the police in and they think you have guns, viola!  You are living in a compund according to the liberal media.
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:18:08 PM EDT
It's what teh polygamists had.

We had this very discussion at work the other day.  The consensus: anything with a guard shack.

I want a compound.

Fear tactic...similiar to "Assault Weapon"
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:20:18 PM EDT
Compound, a multiple.

We have a number of outbuildings around our ranchhouse & we we have always called it a compound. We don't have a wall, but we do have a minimal log fence around the place to keep out the horses, cattle, & their excrement.

If you're a Hollywierd celebrity and want your privacy you live in a "secluded house."

If you're a wealthy businessman who wants your privacy you live in a "gated community."

If you're conservative, or anyone else the media wants to demonized, and want your privacy then you live in a "compound."
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:26:43 PM EDT
people refer to my place as "the compound" all the time

it really isn't

It is just a nod toward my personality, seclusion and firearms proclivities

Meth..
Link Posted: 4/18/2008 12:36:47 PM EDT
A "ranch" is something a cock-smoking leftard has.  A "compound" is what right-wing, get-off-our-backs people have.  A ranch is neutral, "compound" sounds bad.

IIRC They and some close friends own every house on a cul-de-sac. So I guess that's close enough for the media. They bought a vacation house then two houses next to it.

Nice people live in houses.

Bad people live in compounds.

Compound - Any structure you habitate when the Feds are getting ready to raid your ass.

This is similar to a Ruger 10/22 and a .38 revolver being a weapons cache.

Add an over-under and you have an arsenal.

Farm < Ranch < Spread < Compound < Bunker < Fortress

Got it?

Compound ranks a 4 OMGWTFBBQ1! out of 6 on your Raid-the-Wacko-meter.

it's what you house is called when the media decides that they don't like you.

1. (in the Far East) an enclosure containing residences, business offices, or other establishments of Europeans.
2. (in Africa) a similar enclosure for native laborers.
3. any enclosure, esp. for prisoners of war.
4. any separate cluster of homes, often owned by members of the same family.

If you visit Antalya, Turkey: Its a whore house. They are women who are being pimped out to pay off their husbands jail costs. I'm sure that the squids here that visited that great country, know all about that place. I know my buddy does.

The real definition, naturally, is ignored. Despite the fact that it's an accurate definition.

If the liberal media wants to engender hatred for you, you live in a compound, and have an arsenal, complete with military style assault weapons capable of shooting down planes. You might even have a "bunker" or "dungeon" inside your compound.

If the media wants to drum up support for you, you live on an "estate" and your guns are not mentioned. Your bunker is referred to as either a "humidor" or a "wine cellar".

They make rubbing compounds for arfcommers that can't get dates, and need to rub one out.  You buy them at the auto parts store so as to not arouse suspicion.

A compound is a piston steam engine that expands the steam coming out of the first cylinder in one more additional cylinders to get extract additional energy.  It is significantly smaller than what would be required to get the same amount of energy using one piston.

Sweet.  I have a compound.  The front yard isn't fenced but the back yard is and the shed is back there.

w00t!

ETA: I don't have a guard shack or lookout tower but I've got the fence and shed, damnit!

What if you switch a Rem 700 Centerfire for the 10/22,  a .22 revolver for the .38, and a pump action instead of the over/under?

I thought my LPO was giving me the biz about the compound until we pulled in and we get on a horse drawn buggy that looked like the wheels were about to fall off of. The whole 20 block ride the old guy driving the rig is YELLING "We are going to the COMPOUND" over and over. When we got there I noticed a syringe and needle in the flower garden right outside the door. We looked in and out of 20 or so girls only one looked hitable. About 10 guys off my ship had tokens and were waiting for her. I passed out some condoms and left em to it. There were NO cases of STD on that cruise that lasted nine months. When we got back 6-7 guys got a coming home gift from their SOs though. SS

I have a compound.  House, fenced-in yard, shed... but it's not fortified.  What I need is a bunker.
