One of our local airports hosted these guys. They flew in with a B17, B25 and the last flying B24.
they were also offering rides for 425.00 per person. DAMN i need more MONEY!!!!!

Hope you enjoy the pics as much as did getting them.

I really want to thank the Old Vets that flew these things. I was amased at how much smaller these bombers are in person than in the movies. It must have been miserable at altitude as cramped as these aircraft are.

taht's cool! was the B-24 there too? not sure if that is the same B-17, but there is a B-17 and B-24 that they fly around teh country doing shows like that

ETA.... so the B-24 WAS there..... reading is fun and educational

i am still getting a kick out of the "OFFICE CHAIR" bolted to the floor used by the bombadier. Today it would be a 25,000.00+ high tech ergonmoic seat with electronics built into it.

The Sun 'n Fun fly is in a few weekends at Lakeland FL. Wouldn't miss this for the world.

When I lived in Indianapolis, the last week in April a lot of the race car drivers would fly into Indy with their warbirds. Seeing a few P51's and P40's sitting there the whole month of May was something.

I got to fly in the B17 "Aluminum Overcast" a few years ago when they stopped in Lebanon Tn. That was pretty wild. I never realized the B17's were the sizee they were. I was expecting them to be bigger.

not to hijack, but this thread made me google for the Confederate Air Force, see what they had on the WWW. Unfortunately, the Confederate Air Force is no more. The name has been changed to the less offensive "Commemorative Air Force".

I am an airshow fanatic.

My late grandfather was a pilot instructor during WWII and got to fly several different aircraft including B-25s. He instilled the love of WWII aviation in my brother and I at an early age.

Hey! You stole that fourth picture right out of my photo album!

I've got the same picture when Nine o' Nine came to town three years ago.

At that time The Collins Foundation had the B24 painted up in a different livery.

And it truely is amazing just how small that B17 and B24 are inside. Wow!! And it was great to talk to some of the vets who showed up. I had daughter with me. It was the middle of August and about 110° on the tarmack. But she enjoyed the day.

I had plastic with me, and was damned thankful she didn't want to ride one. I'd still be paying that off.

Our Fathers and Grand-fathers were very brave men to go to war in those machines. Skins not much thicker than beer cans, cold, cramped,and uncomfortable, one hell of a place to fight a war. The tail gunner in the 24 had to take his chute off to get to his station and then put it back on. Most sat on theirs for some padding on the seat. Not many made it out if they had to abandon ship.

Brave men indeed.
