The same thing that happened to the impending new ice age in the late 70's, and the hole in the ozone layer that was going to kill us all in the 80's, and...

real answer.
Hasn't happened yet. It will happen just as it has happened many time throughout Earth's history. No it won't be anything like the movie. Likely the Earth's magnetic field will just be weakened for a while... meaning more UV makes it to the ground... increasing skin cancer risk and then it'll recover... and all the compasses that were previously pointing north will point south... That's about it. Could see some satellites prematurely die from the increased radiation... and some navigation systems will need a software update... but it isn't going to be anything catastrophic. |

Mankind can save the planet from this catastrophe by all of us stroking our iron like poles from south to north thereby preventing the magnetic reversal. As usual, when the crunch comes, women are unable to help.
