Got some extra cash and I'm trying to decide.

DSA FAL? AR-10? 2 CMP Garands? Springfield TRP? Kimber something?

Any ideas (besides that fugly Alchemy Spectre)?

I don't have any of the following:
HK-91 type rifles
(currently) any FALs
seriously tricked out 1911's
(currently) HK USPs
AR-10's

I guess my subject line should have been, "What gun would YOU buy if someone gave you $1000 right now?"

I've got a lot of stuff now, maybe too much, but I'm just looking for inspiration.

1) How about a rack grade Danish M1 Garand w/ VAR barrel from the CMP and having it totally restored by Orion 7? That'll cost you about a grand.

2) 2002 LEGP and a case of match .223?

3) Tricked out, custom AK-74/47/RPK/Krinkov by "Informer" at Solstice Arms Int'l?

4) tricked out 1911 for about a grand? How about a Wilson Combat KZ-45, $1085

You could pick up a used/new Glock 17 in 9mm, and a KelTec Sub2000 rifle and both guns would share the same ammo and magazines.

The Glock fits anywhere a Glock will fit and the KelTec will fit into a std. briefcase with a 30rnd Glock 18 mag inserted.

Perfect for the after office party crowd when a briefcase will fit in perfect and only you will know the potential firepower within.

KelTec sells new for $300 and Glock 19 4-5 hundred new/used. Still enough money left over for a couple of factory Glock 18 mags

FAL  or 1911

Everyone needs a .45ACp 1911

First no more decent Garands from CMP period. All are Dane and Breda rebuilds and they go for more than $500 let me assure you.

Sgtar15, a preban AR for $1000? I wanna shop in your gunstore.

You could get a postban M1A but I've heard bad things about Springfield as of late in terms of quality. Having seen the new Springfield SAR8 (CAI gun with Springfield name) and the croatian handgun I can believe it.

A 1000 can buy you a sweet postban Armalite.

But I believe DSA FALs are the best deal going today

if I had $1000 right now, I'd get the M1 and have it worked on... match BBL, a wilson or kreiger... put a nice stock on it, NM sights... oh yeah... it would be sweet...

:)

As of January 2002 I received two service-grade M1's from the CMP.  One was in good condition, the other was in excellent condition; it was an H&R and had hardly been fired.

Walking around an office party with a carbine in a briefcase?  Are you perhaps a mall ninja, by any chance?

Ken, you must have got the last 2.

What I have seen from the CMP lately is not as good.
