I just finished reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. The books got me thinking what firearms will still be here and remain usefull many many years from now.

My choice goes to double barrel shotguns, single action revolvers, and bolt action rifles.

Now I need to buy a single action army clone and a 98k

The garand will be KING of firearms again

Seriously - even if everything goes to hell, I'm guessing there will be enough back-yard blacksmiths that might be able to do some rudimentary manufacturing of spare parts for AKs and ARs, that those weapons will probably still be around for a loooong time.

Plus, many of us HAVE many spare parts for our guns, and if you're not shooting of thousands of rounds (whcih people don't necessarily do in all-out war) then well-built and maintained ARs and AKs will last for hundreds of years, IMO.

Crude blackpowders can be made almost anywhere except the poles, as can hard shot.

I say blackpowder will stand the dark ages. Have flint, will travel.

FAL
1911
and most common pump shotguns. 870, Win. 1200,1300. That type
Glock, sheer numbers of them will see that happen.
and everyone will have a .22 and .38 to go with their broadsword and ax

The colt SAA is too delicate inside for LONG LONG term use and abuse

The simple guns that people can make parts for without machines.\

Shotguns and such.

ETA: How do you make gun powder?

The same guns that just keep on working in third-world shithole conditions now (Afghanistan/Middle East/Africa).

AKs and Enfields.

Probably Glocks too.

Any gun that is well taken care of should outlast the owner in that situation. I immagine that most will eat it due to accident.

I earned enough at 13 to order the three-book series via mail order from a long-defunct book store. Many good, sensible hints there. Just be very, very careful.

I don't really care what guns would survive a second global dark age. Cause if I'm not using my AR and 1911's, then it means that I am dead. And I guess it's someone elses problem now...

Whatever you can capture. We keep spares for what is likely to break - springs, pins, etc. When that fails, whatever you can scrounge from storage locations or capture from the enemy, whomever that may be at the time.
