I've been thinking for some time now about the AWB expiring and how things might change in the future. I know what it means in the strict sense of the law but what does it mean in terms of pricing for weapons and parts? Will new products be on the horizon? I'm trying to make sense of what the future holds for us. Will it be harder or easier to get weapons and parts at a reasonable price? What are the economics of the sunset provision in the AWB? I'd like to hear some opinions.

All it means for me is flash hiders on both my ARs and a true telescoping stock for the shorty.

Of course, it's a victory to law abiding gunowners also.

It means that the good guys sometimes win.

It will mean that a miracle has happened. Who would have thought that the sunset would actually happen?

Besides a political victory, it means a six position m4 stock for the AR.
Link Posted: 8/18/2004 3:20:43 PM EST
It means all my "individual parts" can become one whole rifle in all its glory.

It also means more fun shooting my 10/22... no more constant loading of those annoying 10-round mags.

correction of a stupid ass law that was rammed down my throat when I was 13 and had no way or interest in stopping, it. All laws should have a built in 10 year sunset so that they are reviewed periodically

FREE THE FLASH_HIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

It means that we as gun owners get a very rare second chance. Let's not let this stupidity happen twice.

It will be a huge victory in the sense that we will have regained a freedom from the left. It also means that the battle will have just begun! I think that the left is going to fight like demons to get the ban reinstated after the election. We will have to fight just as hard if not harder to keep it out!

This election will be very important. We need to keep Bush in office, but also and possibly more important we need to keep the congress in the hands of GUN FRIENDLY Republicans!

It means jack squat to me, living in CA. our similar restrictions were enacted before the Fed AWB, and will still be in effect when the AWB sunsets.

What it meant was my final disgust with and seperation from the NRA. They pathetically mishandled the runup to the AWB, saying nothing buy 'No, no, no, no, no...' until everybody quit listening and did it anyway. Like Kruschev banging his shoe on his podium. Clownish and useless.

And Yes, I know that there was much political bloodletting afterward, in '96 - but in all the 10yrs of the AWB - where were the legislative moves to rescind it? Where were the legislative efforts to amend / ameliorate / rescind the AWB? The '86 NFA laws? the '68 GCA?
Where was the NRA's efforts to gut / heavily reform the 'Firearms' portion of the BATF&E?

Edit / Add - Instead, what we get is Legislative Alerts and Rear Guard / Damage Control actions. Screw that, let's go for THEIR throats. Tired of fighting the Antis' fight on THEIR terms.

If it occurs it will mean that I can practice my hobby with less big government infringement on my second amendment right. "Less" in the same sense of how well the 94 AWB curbbed criminal activities using a firearm OF ANY KIND!

Very temporary. Dems do not lose graciously. They'll be back...with blood in their eyes and revenge in their hearts. End of AWB, many angry teens returning to school, critical election looming...it's going to get ugly real quick, on that you can depend.

Not Much

Since I live in the PRNY .

I also believe that the sunset of the federal ban is a mixed blessing . The gun grabbers
will never give up . They simply cannot comprehend that by disarming the law abiding
citizens you create a utopia for those with criminal intent . They are sheep , they live
their lives believing that the authorities will protect them , and when that idiotic notion
lets them down ( Which Will Always Happen ) , they say HEY .... we need more rules .
because the bad guys aren’t following the ones we have .........

I agree with Moof. Look for a" Reichstag Fire" incident. They've read from the same book as the big "A".

Its actually very interesting to me, and I'm really happy about it because it is the first time in my life I have seen us regain a freedom taken away from us. Its also probably the most ridiculous law on the books, so were all glad to see it die.

I would like to think that its the beginning of us gaining back more rights, that its our camels nose in the tent and we can start working towards repealing the 89 ban, and even better the 86 MG ban.... but realistically I know thats not the case. The ONLY reason it is ending is because of INACTION on the part of the republicans to renew it. THis inaction is due to the fact that it is politically expedient for the party and especially the president. It is not because the republicans are champions of RKBA.... a few are on our side but most are indifferent at best.

I think retaining the republican majority and president is important, because if it stays teh way it is theres a good chance of the ban STAYING dead. If the dems get back into power it may be a very short lived victory.

For those of you scratching your heads, the Reichstag Fire was the excuse that Hitler used to intern Jews. They had a mildly retarded Jewish Communist set fire to the Reichstag, and then used the incident to justify the arrest and internment of Jews.

Yankee56 is suggesting that the left would need another Columbine to get the ball rolling on another AWB.

To me it means temporary restoration of basic freedom.

And, to look for part time work to support my ever increasing wants.

I think all the optimism expressed in this thread will make a great human interest story for readers of the Detroit Free Press.

I think a number of changes will occur. One already has. Model One Sales newest ad in shotgun News featured almost every rifle with a flash hider on it. Gun enthusiasts will not pass this opportunity to accumulate firearms. When the ban expires, I imagine there will be a run on ARs, AKs and every other previously affected weapon in their new configuration. We know that the dems will work harder than ever to get a new ban passed. Keeping that in mind, we'll no doubt buy more than we normally would. I will. Then we'll have to figure out what to do in case they manage to pass a new, more restrictive ban.

Same here man. I was only 12 when the Klinton and his band of anti gun socialists passed this wretched law. I will probably cry tears of joy when it dies. And I will feel like the words of Dr Martin Luther King, "I am free at last, I am free at Last, Thank God almighty I am free at last.", because my civil rights will be restored.

It means you will have one last chance in your lifetime to buy your stuff before Horse Face wins the beauty contest and bans it for good! I'll settle for that, as it is a much better predicament then the freaking long 10 years I just finished waiting through!!!!!!!
