Tons of people I know are all throwing a fit about the Senate Republicans refusing to vote on anything unless the tax hike planned for >$250K is eliminated. Is that even really the whole story or is that just a message MSNBC has brainwashed people with?

Well I think it's only fair EVERYONE pay their fair share as the libtards claim to.  If that's the case "the rich" deserve a tax cust as much as the next guy.  The only tards who don't need a tax cut are the ones who pay NO net income taxes.

Sure it will.

There are only a few days left in the current session

I agree.  They'll either find some bill that too important to ignore or they'll cave.

I would be more encouraged if they opposed it because it contained funds to continue the idiotic ethanol fuel mandate, but I guess opposing it for tax hikes is better than nothing.

The Senate Republicans won't vote on amnesty, slacker-pay (er, unemployment welfare extension), or any of the other crazy Democrat agenda items...

They are also unwilling to pass a partial tax cut extension...

With the promise of reinforcements in both houses, they have NO reason to cut a deal with the Dems on anything BUT taxes, and the 'deal' has to include a full extension of all W-era cuts until 2012 (election year)....

EG, they are doing their jobs.

Why is it that I get the feeling that the (R's) are sandbagging Congress so no more liberal BS will be brought up for a vote?

The main concern amongst my coworkers is that the Rs are preventing a vote on the 9/11 responder health care bill. I tried to explain that it dosen't matter what the cause is, they are sticking to their guns at the moment for the sake of taxes but most are raging liberals.

It's sheer genius.  The house democrats will gag on it, and the lame duck congress will pass bugger all.  They only have a week left.   No Dream Act, No Forcing the Pentagon to take openly gay soldiers even if they don't want them and all by standing on the principle of first things first. Absolutely brilliant.

Come Jan they can have "permanent" extension of the current tax rates which might actually help encourage investment and growth.  All the uncertainty of whether the existing congress will pull their head out of their ass has already been factored into everyones decision making, so there is no reason to prefer passing a temporary extension this month over a permanent extension next month.

I'm not sure how it will actually pan out, but my current tin foil thinking is this:

GOP somehow stagnates voting although Dems still have majority & can pass what they like in the "lame" session.

GOP takes control of House.

Congress, still being controlled by 2/3 Dems (senate + pres), fucks up GOP plan to extend all Bush tax cuts and continues to pass what they want for 2 more years.

Lame duck Congress want to spend $1.1 trillion before it is forced out of power.  That is an entire Iraq war.

The main objective of conservatives and republicans and Tea Party is to stop the spending and stop going farther in debt.

i don't know what to do about the tax thing, but they sure as hell need to block everything else (DADT repeal, DREAM/amnesty act, START, and the new 2000 pg omnibus bill!).  the commiecrats should not be doing any of this shit in a lame duck.  the R's need to shut them all down, make them go home!  give us peace!!!!!!!

+1

and as much as I hate higher taxes and not having a concrete tax system for business to plan on

I would love to see some people get a few reduced paychecks at the higher rate and then see it go back up once the new congress is seated
