So, whenever my washing machine starts some sort of cycle, maybe some agitating or spin cycle, it sounds like a guy is inside it banging away with a hammer.  But I looked inside, and no one is there.  It's been doing this for a week, any one know an easy fix?  Besides buying a new one?

I think washing machines are great.
A huge improvement over the stream/flat rock method.

I've never seen anyone hanging out inside mine, but that could explain the missing socks.

Try setting a level on it, first side to side, then front to back.
Level it, and your noises may go away.

Take the hammer away from the guy

Seems easy enough to me

Is it sitting flat?  Check and see if it is off balance.  I believe most of them have adjustable legs on the bottom.  Mine did that right after we moved.  I leveled it out and haven't had any problems.

Look for anything out of balance.  Then fix it.  You may have to pop the top.

hop in the washer and turn it on, wait for the guy to *poof* and kick his ass.
then take his money for the trouble he has caused you

Dude the cleanest clothes I ever wore were ones my Korean wife beat on a rock and washed by hand with a washboard and a big cake of lye soap.

Getting her a washing machine was three steps forward on the convenience scale but two steps backwards on the quality scale.

What do you know about washing machines?
In a pinch, they can be used to mix Sacrete.

Once.

I haven't moved it, it's been in the same place for the last 5 years.  Any other ideas?
