What process do you have to stop? Is it rtvscan or doscan?

Is this an old system? Sounds like the normal XP stuff after running for a few years. Back it all up and reinstall from scratch.

The listed process is a svchost, but I don't recall what the shutdown notice states what process was interrupted.  I'll have to double check when it happens again.

svchost is a generic name for stuff that runs from running dlls

This won't be easy but there are ways to find out what services are running under that generic name.

sysinternals process explorer might help but it's been a long time since i used it.

Instead of trying to fix Xp, why not just redo it?  (Like others have said...)

It isn't that hard.  We had a discussion about it and listed all the steps in this thread...
