Looking for a good list of foods to eat (breakfast, lunch, dinner) for an average caloric intake, that will help me with energy, building muscle, etc.  Just a general fitness diet that will help me shed the excess fat, but still keep my energy up for working out and day to day stuff.

What do you guys do?

lean meat- fish, eggs and chicken are best, others O.K.

brown rice( not minute rice) baked potatoes, wheat and oats for carbs

as much vegetables as you can eat, lettuce doesnt count.

as much fruit as you want, has natural sugar (not bad)

Yogurt, cheese, peanut butter, milk O.K.

NO SODA (worst thing ever) water and natural fruit juices best

limit fast food, once a week O.K.

Taco Bell, Papa Johns, Sonic, Carl's Jr and various Chinese take-outs.  I fell off the bandwagon for the past 6 weeks or so.  Was mainly eating Lean Cuisine entrees and fruit with small fast-food portions for lunch.  Lost a LOT of weight doing that.

Now, I'm trying to switch to something more similar to "The Abs Diet" or "The Paleo Diet".  Both of those are worth looking into if you are not familiar with them.

Trying to lose about 5lbs of fat, wouldn't mind also building some muscle too :-)

In my experience the key is to stick to the outside aisles of your grocery store.  This is where the fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, and diary products are.  Eat as many non-starchy vegetables as you can, a decent amount of fresh fruit, lean meats, and eggs, and don't skimp on dairy.  Avoid the processed stuff in the center aisles like bread, cereal, pasta, canned chili, etc and you will do well.

Well 5 pounds aint shit.  start with a diet of 2700 cals with 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fat.  See what happens and then adjust your cals by a couple hundred of cals if its not working as desired.  When you start to bulk come back and ask again about bulking.

eta: try to only eat non proccessed foods, and lean meats.  Make sure to your multis and fish oil.
