For those of you who owned post-ban AR15's and became free on 9/14/2004 (Not like those of you stuck in NY)
What did you do with your upper ? I would of thought I'd still see more post ban barrels, and guns for sale on the used market then and now. I sold my A2 bushmaster fluted upper in EE |
Can you thread a post ban upper? if so where can you get it done at?
threaded it and used a FF rifle length rail to replace the FSB on my carbine.
Had one for my first AR. It was one of the RRA uppers with the fake pressed on flash hider. Sold it to a NY resident where it was still applicable.
Replaced the barrel. I still have it in the closet somewhere.

I've been planning for years to have the Bushmaster AK brake removed, get it turned down from an HBAR to Govt profile and throw an A2 on it. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I threw mine down my driveway.
Then threaded it. Later sold it. |

I'm leaving mine as is. I bought it as a range gun, and it does the job. I'm not sure it would be cost effective to have all that work done to the bbl. I'd sell it and buy a new one. But, I like the AK Brake. My one other posty was threaded, with a pinned on fake-brake. I cut it off. But I haven't re-used it yet. |

However, it was my first AR and my father got for me, so kinda not keen on selling it. In all likelihood I'll probably just leave it as is. |

Hey thanks for the link to adco... thats awesome. If you put it back on the post ban reciever is that illegal? I thought there was some kind of deal with post and pre ban uppers and lowers? i know post bans have no bayo lug and no flash hider... Or at least thats how i take it.. Thanks again guys..

When the ban ended those rules no longer applied, at least here in FL. Do what you want with it as far as AWB restrictions go. |

I had two rifles. Both were threaded, with a muzzle brake peramenently attached - pin/weld. It wasn't too hard to use an angle grinder to remove the brakes (destroying them in the process) and putting on a crush washer and regular flash hider.
I'm not sure which poll choice to pick. |
Immediately had it threaded and installed a FH.
I can live without a bayonet lug. |
I threaded mine and later sold it. It was a HBAR and I no longer own HBAR barrels. The AK I owned with a permantly attached brake is also gone. Brakes suck and I'm so glad I don't have them on my guns anymore, except for a SLG 21 and its brake will be gone shortly.

It's still on my lower.
It seems to work just fine, I cant find any reason to replace it..... |

Legally if the brake was permanently attached the barrel was not threaded. By pulling off the break you then "threaded" the barrel. |
I attached flash hiders on the hidden threads.
I added a folding stock to my WASR. I've put real tele-stocks on my carbines and picked up a Bushmaster ORC carbine in .308 with a lug, flash hider and tele-stock. (Moved from NY in Sept). |

Get a new barrel how you like it and sell the existing barrel to someone still behind enemy lines. |

Never had a post ban AR. This...I did sell one of true Pre ban uppers though |
When the banned sunsetted, I did not own one.
Following the end of the ban I was buying 3 or 4 20" barrels per month on EE. I turned them into free float varmint uppers. |

I changed from the entry stock to a milspec Magpul CTR and that was it. Been meaning to get the barrel threaded but have always preferred to buy ammo instead.
Simple shit. I dremeled out the pin for the muzzle break, unscrewed the comp and put on a flash hider.
This comrade kept it, because I live in an especially corrupt part of the US.
<––- |
I had a 16" that had a permanently attached faux hider, and a 20" that had a plain muzzle. I had ADCO cut the 16" to 11" for my SBR, and thread the 20".
They do great work, BTW. Very happy with the results. |
I returned four to pre-ban glory. One was a Colt AR and three were AK's. I left one Colt AR alone for conversational purpose and my Colt 9er carbine was made after the ban ended so it's GTG. It just seemed like the right thing to do.
ADCO cut and threaded my RRA A4, but I left my RRA NM and BM Varminter unchanged.

If "pre-ban" means before the ban, doesn't "post-ban" mean after the ban?
Aren't you really talking about "during the ban" uppers? This shit confuses me. |

Typically since the ban I don't have to specify anymore. For this conversation though, I guess I'll call it "no-ban". |

Quoted: Replaced the barrel. I still have it in the closet somewhere. This. Re-barreled to a gov't profile 20 ". Sold the 16 HBar on EE, however. |

I just bought a post ban Bushmaster 14 1/2 with pinned Mini Y Comp in mint condition...for a whopping $250. Already had a Bushy lower waiting for an upper. Had to buy a Bolt carrier and bolt...found a new factory Colt for $150 here. $400 for a complete upper isnt too bad.
Will most likely have the min y comp removed and a phantom fh pinned on pretty happy with another AR in the safe now |
I sent mine back back to Bushy and had the ak brake removed and the Izzy flashider / muzzle device installed
I thought of selling but I got a super deal on it initaly andits good know cept for a bayo lug |
Sold it. All flash hiders and bayo lugs for me these days.
I really don't even like having LE Only magazines after the ban, eventhough they're legal. I usually try and get rid of them. |
sold it to my brother for a pittance. bad idea. now he's the one blasting me with that damn mini-y muzzle brake.
