Ive had Siberian Huskies and German Shepards. The shepards are by far the better of the two.

The ones I've rescued at the humane society.

Since a pic of one dog is posted, I'll post mine!

I've had a German Shepard, a Lab, and a Golden retriever. Loved them all in their own way, would be happy with any of the three really. As far as kids go...the lab and retriever are all good with absolutely no worries!

Akita hands down. smart, loyal, quiet, and big enough to scare the crap out of anyone coming to do bad things at the casa
Link Posted: 10/6/2004 10:22:57 PM EDT
I'm not crazy about pure-bred anything, but labs in general are where it's at.

Beagle and English Springer Spaniels. We're on our third Springer and plan on always having one around.

Neapolitan Mastiff for me.

Owned shepards and dalmations, but black labs are my favorite. Great tempers, good builds, obedient and gentle. What's not to like?

Cockers and Springer. Husbands family raised beagles for awhile. They also had labs and springers.
I will always have some sort of spaniel. I have a soft spot for them.

What the #$%# is the matter with you guys!! Not one vote for a boxer!? I've got two and they're the best dogs I've ever owned ... OK, so Labs and German Shepards are close seconds.

I've had mutts, britany spaniels, and a cocker spaniel

I just got an American Staffordshire Terrier puppy a few weeks ago

Weimaraner = BIG +1

Right now though I live in town. Own a Miniature Schnauzer. For a small dog, they are great.

Have owned/had a Doberman, Border Terrier, Golden Retreiver/Irish Setter mix, a Chiuaua (sp?), and a Black Lab.

The Doby is my fav. Loyal to the end and a great protector. The Irish Setter/Golden Retreiver was the nicest most affectionate but also the dumb. The Border Terrier was very smart and the Black Labs were just as smart but everyone here knows the high points of the Labs and they've lived up to them in every respect. One of them was probably the dumbest dog I've ever seen.....bordering on retarded, but boy could she hunt ground hogs. Almost 1 a week and they were hard to find in our neck of the woods.

I have a rat terrier. She is 9 and has chilled down a little, but she is still a maniac and completely fearless.

German Sheppard bar none best breed out there, you have to be careful when selecting a litter to chose from and get one with good german breeding not the mutations that the Dog Shows here want to see. German Sheppards are the most versatile dogs that there are I have trained a german Sheppard to do everything from bird hunting to turtle fetching. Very Loyal and very family oriented

My boys:

Buddy is 8 years old and Charlie is 5
Buddy is the one in the front on the pool shot.

This is my Girl "Sadie" She is 2 now this pic was taken about a year ago...

I Think Labs are great dogs but my favorites are Beagles! They are so lovable & Loyal dogs. They are different because they are scent hounds. They are led around by their noses...LOL!

Mastiff, Cocker Spaniel, Black Lab, Golden Retreiver, and my favorite: Shar Pei. Hes an awesome dog, and not the least bit aggressive, like some say the breed can be. I've tested his temper before by catching him sleeping in a corner, sneaking up on him and charging him, yelling and stomping my feet. He backed into the corner and started yelping in fear, with his tail tucked between his legs. Took him a second after I stopped to look in my direction and realise it was me. :]

I have had

English Bulldogs

Boston Terriers

American Pit Bull Terrier

My suggestions are this.

Boxers are great with kids and awesome for active families. They love to play and stay a puppy for there entire lives. They are good protectors too.

English Bulldogs are good with kids and families. They are very very laid back, some can be active and they need some exercise. Overall the English Bulldog is great for people living in apartmetns who may not have time for an active dog. And they have personality.

Boston Terriers are good family dogs too. They are actieve and make good lap dogs. They will keep down rats and small rodents in your yard, those boogers are were born to kill rodents.

American Pit Bull terrier, they can be great or aweful with families. It depends greatly on the breeder. they require a whole lot of attention in there upbringing and must constantly be watched. They are very active love to play but must have a strong dominate owner to watch them. I wouldn't get one if I had a kid, the kid is enough to watch let alone a pit bull and a kid.

But I am most fond of Boxers, they are the best overall in my book. Though all breeds have there pro's and con's.
