The things with the writing on them that they use when filming a movie. It has the hinge that some guy closes before he moves out of scene when the director says, "Annnnnnnd, ACTION!"

What are those things called?

It's the clapper. It turns on all those powerful movie lights.

I think clapperboard is the most common name, but marker, slate, sync slate, etc are also used

The original point was to sync the movement with the sound. So when the marker snaps you have a point to connect the sound to the visuals during production.

I don't think this thread warrants massive blading...yet.

But you're right.
A volatile subject like this could lead to bannings and bloodshed.
There should probably be a special forum just for this thread.
