Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - What are the big flashlights they always seem to use in movies and on TV?

For example, in The Day After Tomorrow when the guy is searching for his son in the library at the end of the movie they are carrying these bright bluish tinit lights with large boxes on thebottom.  These same ones seem to appear in most exploration type movies.  ANyone know what they are?

That looks like them,  just remembered they had a very bright beam that was very tight.
