Yep - no matter what happens, they are coming after us again - I'd like to have a .50 before they try to ban 'em....

What would you get? A Barrett? AR50? Thanks.

.408 Chey Tac

Superior to the .50 at distances beyond 1000 yds.

If you are stuck on a .50... get the M82.

Dont even think about getting a Serbu. I have a good friend that got screwed. He ended up getting a Barrett and is very happy.

The .408 is said to be capable of sub minute of angle groups at 2500 yards. The .50 goes sub-sonic LONG before the .408's velocity drops to sub-sonic levels.

A guy in Clarksville Tn bought one of the EDM Arms CheyTac 408's. We couldn't get it under 5.5" at 300m. We stretched it out to 1000m and was lucky to hit a 55 gallon drum with 2 shots out of 10. I was dissapointed in the performance of this gun.
My M82A1 would nail the drum 8 shots for 10 with LC M33 ball.
Give me the .50 anytime.

If your on a budget check this one out.... I have actually shot 2 of these and they are awsome!

That doesn't mean anything about the .408 round.

That's like saying " I had this Remington .308 that would only shoot 3" groups at 100 yds... I'm only going to buy 7mm magnum from now on."

Intriguing, but I don't know if I would want to shoot a 10 lb. 50BMG.

If I could find another 408 to compare it to, I would.
I've been shooting .50's on the job now for 12 years. I would take it over any other heavy rifle out there.

I understand... the .408's are still rare. It's just unfair to discredit a caliber because of one bad experience.

The Chey Tac built rifles are in use by some groups in the military, from what I understand.

They are in use with some of the sneaky pete's. The ammo is super pricey, hard to get, and reloading components are outrageous.

Dean hit a good group. But how many tries to do it, and did the rifle back it up again? That's where the proof is in the pudding. Will it repeat the performance?

It's really not bad, infact If I were to ever buy one this would be it. I have always put off a .50 cause I didn't like most of them, well now I am trying to resist the urge.

Dean can shoot like that all day long. I saw him hit targets out in Yakima with Mcmillan .50 at around 1600 meters in 20 mph winds with alarming ease.

Hell, I even have a copy of the Sniper tables for the .50 that he helped create. No more than 2 rounds are needed to have a hit at over 1000 meters with those tables.

First off, how many dollars are you planning on spending.

If I had the money Id get a M82. I owned an AR50, didnt care for a few thing about it, but it was still nice. On the lower end Id get an M99.
Link Posted: 8/19/2004 7:54:24 PM EST
what are the M99's going for?

I have a serbu and couldnt be happier. He bent over backwards to make sure I got what I wanted. I cant give the guy enough praise. Who ever got screwed probably didnt take the time to call mark and talk to him about it.

The Ultra Mag looks pretty cool too.

I would go with the ArmaLite AR-50

I like my Serbu.

I thought that was a little odd too. I've only read good things about Mark Serbu and his company. He is highly regarded just EVERYWHERE in the .50 world.

Also a first for me. Mark Serbu is well respected in the 50 world. I have personal experiance in breaking one of his guns and he took care of it quickly and without question. The only thing difficult about dealing with Serbu is getting ahold of him since he spends a lot of time on the road.
