I am new to the .45 auto and just recently got a Para-Ord single stack LDA.

I know this gun got rave reviews and I also know that some like it and some don't.

For me, it shoots great and handles very nicely. I also got it for $499 NIB which is a real bargain.

I use Pro Load .40 in my other pistols and it functions perfectly each and every time. Never a MF.

I picked up some 230 gr. JHP +P from Pro Load and the pistol has a very annoying MF with it.

Basically, it will fire but will sometimes eject the empty and the slide will lock back. ????? Sometimes it does not and it works fine.

For me though...........anytime there is a "sometime" is too many times for me.

Is this because of the load being hot or do I have a slide stop issue or what?

Again, being new to the 1911 I need your advice.

The weapon functions to perfection with ball ammo.

FOR DEFENSE I USE THE 200GR CORBON.ACCURATE AS HELL OUT OF ALL MY .45 AND MAN DOES IT THUMP!

I use 185gr +P JHP Gold Dots from Georgia Arms in my Sig P220, Ruger P90, and Ruger P97 with nary a malfunction.

I carry 200 gr +P GoldDots in my Glock 36 and Kimber Compact Stainless. My Kimber had the same problem as your Para. The rounds in the magazine were bumping the slide stop on the way up. I replaced the slide stop with one from Wilson Combat...problem solved.

They make a detent drilling bit to use in order to correct this problem. I took the safety off of gun, pulled out the plunger tube guts, and drilled a very small detent in my kimber's slide stop. no more problems.

Thanks BraddD.

Kinda makes me feel stupid but when I examined a bit closer it was evident by the copper trail on the slide stop that those big Gold Dot 230s were bumping it when the pistol tried to chamber next rd.

Upon inserting a mag very slowly it is obvious that you are correct.

Easy to fix. Thanks.

I use Federal 230gr Hydrashocks both in my Glock 30 and my Para 14-45 with excellent results.

In all my .45ACPs, all lengths, revolver and semiauto. Perfect function through more than 1500 rounds over twelve or thirteen years.

I have found that 230gr Hydrashoks are the best as far as reliable feeding goes. The standard rounds do lose their jacket though. Try to find the LE bonded version. The 230gr Winchester Ranger SXT give excellent performance, but you need to make sure they work in your pistol.

Thankfully, I haven't had to "use" any ammo for defensive use.

My Kimber Custom Classic Stainless is loaded with Federal Hydrashocks.

230-grain Hydrashok. DON'T use ball ammo, it tends to overpentrate and doesn't crush nearly as much tissue as a good hollowpoint.

I just switched to these. MUCH lighter and EXTREAMLY good on penetration.

Aguila 45acp IQ
New Commercial Ammo. Super High Velocity. 117grn, Alloy Hollow Point, 1450ft/sec, will penetrate 3/4" ballistic polycarbonate plate, up to 12" of ballistic gelatin. Packaged in 20rd boxes.

I was worried about the lighter bullet weight until i fired a few. This stuff ROCKS!!

Federal 230 gr Hydrashoks.

When Federal changed the shape of the bullet (7-8 years ago?) it was hanging up on me.

I was having failures to feed, half way into the chamber. I thought it was the ramp, but when I checked the inside of the chamber it was rough as heck on top. (Thanks Colt, nice quality control jackasses). I caught my ever because of all the copper smears. I needed a strong light to see that it was like 1600 grit sandpaper in there.

I had to polish it smooth on top, and it is fine now.

My dept. issues Federal 230grn. Hydrashoks. We've had 6 officer involved shootings since we made the transition to semi-autos 10 years ago.
5 were one shot stops(4 died). 1 was a 2 shot stop(also died). The 45 auto with this round is a good man stopper. So out of 6 shootings(that I can recall) with this round 5 died total rounds fired, 7. As with any type of round shot placement is critical. It's not that our guys are great shots. These were all within 7ft. We train in the Tac-Tac method(when we train) so the number of one shot shootings has raised some ?s with our trainers. The real problem is we don't train we only shoot a qualification course once a year. The trainers won't admit thats a problem but it is.

I use Remington Golden Sabre 185gr because:
1. I like'em
2. I don't like the way copper jacketed bullets deform when "squished" in my gun. I mean the round on the top of the magazine hits the slide when mag is inserted, smashing the hollowpoint from round to oblong.

I don't use any +P in my Colt 1991A. I practice
with 230 Gr. Ball. Use only Colt or USGI Contract (Mfr. 8R611) magazines. 2 Magazines I
keep loaded with 5 rounds of Federal Hyra-Shok
or Remington Golden Sabre (Both 185 Gr.). My real inside house weapon though is an Ithaca
Model 37 M&P, 8 shot 12 Gauge loaded with #4
Buck. (We used this in Vietnam also - Along with
00 Buck and Fletchetts).

I just got my Ruger P97 a few weeks ago-my first .45. I like it a lot. I've tried mostly target ammo: CCI,Winchester,Magtech(?). Everything so far has been reliable. What I need to know is what defensive round gives off the least amount of flash. This is important, considering most shootings occur under low light conditions.Any help?

My Grandfather said 230 FMJ worked just fine !
I think with the .45ACP, bullet selection isn't a big deal. I'd feel well armed with my 200gr. cast lead semi waddcutter IPSC load.
I use 230gr.Federal hydrashok or Golden Saber 185 gr. +P. I like the Speer Gold Dot for handloads.
