Ok me and my girl are both in college so money is going to be a issue but for the past couple of weeks she has mentioned picking up a rifle and a pistol. As for the rifle I am thinking a yugo sks which I can get with my C&R for $100. But we are still trying to decide on a pistol. She is wanting something cheap to shoot, small and reliable also she is recoil sensitive. I was kinda thinking a snubnose .357 but she is wanting a auto loader. What do you guys think of a Makarov? I have shot several and they seem like pretty reliable guns and are compact. I know ammo isnt gonna be as common as a 9mm or .380 but I would just pick up a 1000 rounds online. Does a Makarov have enough knock down power? It would prpbably spend most of its time in her desk drawer and at the range since we are denied the right to conceal carry here in kansas.

I don't have any advice for you, other than...if she's sensetive to recoil don't get

a snubnose .357!

I like .357 revolvers just because they can shoot light 38 special loads for the range but then can be loaded back up with .357 magnum when she gets home

Good point about the sks rifles I will probably throw in the extra cash and get a like new one.

Agreed on the unissued SKS as well.
You can get them for $149 at AIM.

eta: if you want to get a pistol on the
cheap, look at a CZ52.

I wish I could convince her to get a cz52 just because the price is right and could pick one up with my C&R. But she doesnt like the cosmetics of it.
Aimless I agree with your point I would rather see her get something a little bigger but know if she doesnt like it then shes not gonna shoot it and I would rather see her with a smaller pistol and know how to use it than have a larger one and not

I will keep that in mind Me and my buddy are going shooting next weekend most likely and will take her along with us he has a large variety of pistols. I will try to find a couple in our price range and let her have at it with them and see which ones she prefers. The only problem with the pistols described above is gonna be price. With the sks and makarov we could pick up both and about a 1000 rounds of ammo for each of them for 500 bucks

Mak is a nice little gun but it's hard for some chicks to load and I don't like the Ruger Mk 1 style mag. release.

If she isn't going to be carrying it around, consider a Smith and Wesson Model 10. They are cheap and work. She can shoot 38 wadcutters to build her skill until she can handle +P loads which still don't have a lot of recoil.
One of our computer guys at work ADed a CZ52 into his thigh earlier this year and bled to death. I hate to give a non gun person an auto pistol without magazine disconnect.
A revolver is safer and a 38 Spl with a 158 grainer gives you a lot more bullet than a Mak.

If you REALLY lover her, you would get , "His and Hers" SKS rifles. You could both shoot at the same time and when you dump her ass you would have two for yourself. How about a nice Ruger 5.5" bull bbl .22 pistol? Cheap as hell, accurate, can be dotted or scoped in the future for competition or rats at the dump and it does kill people. Learn to shoot on a .22 for 5 bucks a day, nothing is cheaper than that.

SKS or AK47, whatever.

Get her a P22. Slick little shit, inexpensive for gun and ammo, nice feel.
